Apologies for the delay in posting these pic's & for anyone who was still wondering what I had won, after I had mentioned winning & then not declaring the item won. I just expected to be able to do this a couple of weeks ago.
I received the parcel whilst on hols in England & it came very securely wrapped. July 2011 056.jpgI did the tap test to see if any fine dust came out but there was none.July 2011 053.jpgJuly 2011 055.jpg Carefully opening the box (as I had gone 50/50 split with another member, I had to open them to send his share). The aroma was wonderful & the phots show the cigars were in good shape, considering they were from the 70's & as they were purchased in a sealed box, they could have been a lot worse! The bands are clearly stained with oils & look similar to the ERDM DT's from 1990 that I had. July 2011 059.jpgJuly 2011 058.jpg
I did wait a few days to smoke the first one, we visted an old friend from the RN who I first served with back in '79 at RNAS Culdrose & not only does he enjoy the occasional cigar so does his 23yo son, John. As John was working Terry said he'd wait until after dinner before he had a smoke. So after a light luncheon, I retired to the man shed as the weather was too wet outside. Terry popped in & out whilst preparing the evening feast but I was able to smoke this superb cigar without breeze or conflicts of other cigars in the same small space. It was a real treat & I am not going to give a review to avoid stealing Tippex's thunder, just that I am always amazed just how much flavour a 30yo cigar can still have. And was it worth the auction price? Well for me it was, it adds to my knowledge of ERDM's & their amazing aging potential, it was never going to blow my socks off but it was a wonderful hour. That evening I had a Party Piramide 2000, John a Havana Custom No2 & Terry had a Hoyo PR. A wonderful day, long to be remembered. July 2011 115.jpgJuly 2011 119.jpgJuly 2011 118.jpg I think the look says it all! I hope my partner enjoys them as much, thanks mate for sharing the risk.
