  • How long does it take you...?

...to smoke a cigar like a Party Short? It's a minuto, so this applies to El principes and RASSC if that's your point of reference (a Trini Reyes is virtually the same size, so you could go for that too).

I only ask because I smoked my first today and it took over an hour. Same for the Reyes.

I don't really feel like i'm going slowly on it either, just that I don't like the harshness/acidity that I find builds up when I smoke a cigar to quickly and it overheats.

Cigars-review.org mention the smoke time for this cigar to be 15 minutes. Some of the reviewers also say they do it in 20.

I realise this isn't a pressing issue, I was just curious to see if I was a particularly slow smoker, and how people are getting away with smashing through the cigar more quickly without it negatively affecting the taste...

If you're smoking any cigar in 15 minutes then you're only cheating yourself out of the full experience. Smoking that quickly will make the stick far too hot and mar the flavours, I'd hazard a guess that anyone smoking a cigar in that space of time is purely looking for the nicotine buzz.

I'm a big fan of all the cigars you've mentioned above and the time taken can depend on a number of factors, primarily how it's been kept and how over/under filled the stick is. Generally though I find the El Principe and Short smoke for about 45 minutes while the RASSC can often be quite a dense stick and go on for over an hour. I would say that I am on the slower side of average in terms of smoking speed but I don't often get the chance to smoke with others so I can't really tell!

As Styler says, they're all quality cigars. As a result they are fairly slow burning. I'd say around the 45min mark would probably be about average for those sorts of smokes (if well made, with good tobacco and well filled). The Short, which is the one I have had most experience with tends to take me around 50 mins, which is quite excellent for a cigar of its size (and, therefore, price).

(Ahem!) While you may find a general smoking time for each stick, your actual milage...errr, smoking time may differ. Like you, I am a slow smoker and usually take much longer to finish a stick then mis amigos. Over time and with experience, you will learn how how to predict how long it will take to smoke a cigar based on the vitola...unless it's a NuB! tv-062.gif

An hour to 90 minutes to smoke a RASCC last night, it was so good I was nearly burning my fingers towards the end!

I used to smoke fairly quickly. Usually because I was all excited and urgent about enjoying the cigar.
Once I got used to handling cigars and learnt more about taste profiles etc I slowed right down.

I'm probably 7 years in to cigar smoking now and a trini reyes takes me about an hour. I also find that I enjoy them more because I don't feel like I have to squeeze another smoke in now and just enjoy the moment rather than look for something else to smoke, when I have an afternoon spare!

I've been smoking cigars for a good wee while now & favoured the larger vitola.
                  Not good!!
I seemed to hammer through the smaller gauges far too fast & missed the enjoyment you can get from them.
I have slowed down on these sizes only recently (thanks Tipp) & allowing the individual sticks to dictate the pace has increased my enjoyment...and sizes I purchase by a huge factor...I now take more time on the larger sticks ( just had a San C El Morro over 2 hours) and reap not only the enjoyment but the POM & benefits that doing things a little slower & in a more relaxed fashion gives me.

For me, because I have to smoke either outside or in the unheated conservatory with the windows open, the issue is always the weather. When it's very cold I will confess to hurrying and often, to not completely finishing a smoke. A different story during the warmer months.

In Winter a Party Short will take me app. 40/45mins. During the Summer that time will expand considerably.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

A party short will last me 40 Min's but my regular smoke the Bolivar PC, I can make last well over the hour mark. But as a general rule...the drunker I am the quicker I smoke. (That's what she said).

Funny - I always last for ages when I'm drunk.

I do tend to slobber tho... :S
