  • do or dont you inhale cigar smoke

Have just started cigar smoking, do or do you not inhale and if you do does it effect the overall taste of the cigar, i have herd about retrohailing aswell advice much appreciated

Taste buds are in your mouth, not your lungs! Do not inhale directly to your lungs EVER.
You can learn to wrap the smoke around the back of your mouth and out through your nostrils, but don't do this with every toke. I do it to get a more intense flavour from the cigar.

Don't inhale unless you're Chuck Norris as it's bloody sore!!

The thing about smoke coming out your nostrils means it must have been slightly inhaled into the trachea to be exhaled through the nostrils...I understand why it's done ie to change the flavour profile but I avoid it

Definitely don't inhale unless you want to cough your dinner up

Sometimes I take a draw, hold it for a few seconds then exhale 90%, then gently let the last 10% exit via the nasal passage, you can pick up some very subtle flavours this way. Just don't do it as part of every draw, it also only tends to only be good when the cigar is smoking very smooth and creamy.

              Sigh.

              I inhale everything.

I know, I know... cardinal sin Numero Uno.

And I'm not suggesting anyone else should, but if I don't inhale, the bloody thing tastes like burning tobacco leaves to me.

As an ex fag smoker I've had to learn not to inhale (although the first couple of tokes on a cigar pretty much taught me immediately!) and now it has become second nature and IMHO is the only way to enjoy a cigar

                  Only real men inhale

If it's a really good cigar often I'll leave the smoke in my mouth to cool, blow most out of my nose and the last little bit is saved as a present for my lungs. If it isn't a really good cigar I'll ditch it then bury it with sodium bicarbonate.

I have found going back to cigars I thought I knew and using this technique has been really refreshing, picking up on things I might have previously missed. It's like rereading a good book, or watching a detective film again when you know the ending and trying to pick out the clues.

You should try and do it once the cigar has gotten going a little bit, maybe just after 5 mins, and you might want to avoid it on strong cigars and towards the end if they get a bit peppery or spicy.

You know what, I inhale about a 1/4 of the smoke. I know its naughty but I love it and in small amounts its not too harsh. But the bulk I allow to waft out the final tail end I inhale. Yumo!

Simon, I tend to inhale the fist draw. This usually sets out how I will smoke the cigar. If the first draw defeats my lungs, I'll be very careful with the cigar but if it doesn't, I can then relax knowing that an occasional inhalation won't send me to A&E!

I, too, do totaly agree with SmokeyDave.

Slightly off-topic: the Swedish expression (slang) for exhaling via ones nose is "Dragon Puff"!

I never inhale can't think of anything that would spoil a good cigar more, I just taste and let the smoke drift out. Inhaling just burns!!!
