Two and a half years into the hobby I'm still living out of Tupperware, a coolbox and a giant plastic storage tub and my cigars taste great. I'm considering, only now, buying a small proper desktop due to my current living arrangements. DIY will be fine.

As I understand it, Spanish Cedar is the only wood that does not impart a strong aroma onto the contents, the cedar will over time pick up the flavours/aromas of the cigars that are contained within, which is why some old shop humidors smell fantastic!
Also Spanish Cedar is the best for maintaining a constant humidity level.

I just keep mine in the boxes tbh. Spanish cedar will help buffer the humidity but so will having lots of cigars in there.
FWIW, mine are just plastic tubs with boxes of cigars and a few 69% Boveda pouches in with them. They sit pretty much spot-on at 70% RH consistently and have done for ages.
