  • Is Cohiba overrated?

Everytime i talk about cigars everyone always asked me to try a Cohiba. Are they over rated for the price?

  • #2
They are a bit overpriced esp at UK prices. The Siglo IV & VI are amazing though as is the lancero. The robusto attracts a lot of attention but I'm not a fan at all....

I'm relatively new to cigars, just under a year and I must say that I love the cohiba panatela and Siglo 1. Am looking forward to trying the others. They're just so smooth and tasty that in my book they are worth paying extra for, not all the time, but certainly now and again.

i've stated my opinion about cohibas on here before....... when they are good, there's nothing else like them!!! when they aren't good, you curse yourself for buying them!!! my success rate with cohiba (in terms of being great) is on average 1 in 3!!! to be honest, i think trinidad is a more consistent brand who could give cohiba a run for it's money as habanos sa's flagship brand!!! in all honestly, i've never been let down EVER by trinidad, they always hit the mark!!!

over rated? not so much, just inconsistent in their greatness!!! overpriced? absolutely!!!

            all the best,

            alex

As a few people have said already, yes the are overpriced, but they they can remind you why you started smoking cigars in the first place. Sometimes nothing else comes close.

Schlock horror, I find myself agreeing with the Mexicant!

Overrated? No, most certainly not, the Siglo IV is possibly the best cigar I have ever smoked, although as ever the circumstances had a lot to do with that, I absolutely love an aged lancero and enjoyed one by the pool on a recent Cuban trip, although you need the time to enjoy one. The Behike is a mighty cigar but, in my experience needs to be treated with respect as it's got a sting in it's tail .

Over priced? Yes, so I save them for special occasions and enjoy a Trinidad as an every day cigar.

Ask th equestion another way, would your Cave/Humis to be without a Cohiba? I think 80+ of those who enjoy Havanas could find the Cohiba that suits them occasionally, & just having them occasionally they become more affordable. They used to be the most expensive Havanas but with LE & RE's, some of which are not so special, the Cohiba's aren't so extortionate. Cohibas make up less than 5% of my collection but I certainly wouldn't want to be without them, especially Esplen, Lancerous (well aged) & I used to enjoy the Sig III but haven't had one for yrs.

A good siglo 4 is the business. The robusto is pish imho.

Yup, probably all been said. Overpriced and inconsistent but when good magical. The two main blends do not work in all vitolas and they seem to have very sensitive ageing characteristics. For instance the Robusto only seems to be good between 5-10 years. Less than 5 and it is often unpleasant, more then 10 and it seems to get harsher.

A lot of people have very disappointing experiences by smoking Cohibas young when they can be truly unpleasant (especially after paying the admission price). Then there is a pressure for the less experienced smoker to say what a great stick it is (because it is a Cohiba).

The price ticket creates an expectation and this is often hard to live up to. However a good Siglo IV/VI, lancero, esplindido can be a great smoke.

It is the premium brand so it is the one everyone has heard of and asks about but as aficionados we know there is more to cigars than this.

Echoing what others have said whilst not a major part of my smoking it is not one I would be without.

Try, explore, enjoy, make sure they have a few years before smoking and you will draw your own conclusion.

The only Cohibas in my humidor are in gift boxes from cigar functions. Even in Cuba, I can buy two or even three boxes of something equal to or better than (better IMO) Cohibas for the same price as a box of Esplendidos, Robustos or even one of the few Cohibas I enjoy: the Siglo IV or VI. This may sound like I'm just saying that Cohibas are simply overpriced but it's more than that: they are just not that good a cigar. The fact that they are also so expensive just compounds the issue.
Yes, the Lanceros are favorites for many folks but Lanceros from torcedores like Santos or Maria are amazing at $3.50 ea.

Not a lover, would take other brands over Cohiba. Still to have a Siglo VI which lives up to the hype - even some very aged ones I found were pretty plain.

Even "It's all be said already" has been said already

As a cigar smoker approaching 2 years in the hobby I can count the number of enjoyable Cohibas I've had on one hand.... after a nasty table saw accident.

I've come to the conclusion that I just don't enjoy the signature grassy Cohiba flavour, I find it a little sickly.
