      Hi Mark,
Keep away from samplers, they are what they are, it would be unusual to really like more than 50% of a sample.
Stickto buying a few singles, possibly, as suggested, after reading Tipps Short Smoke reviews.
Decide what you like & compare what your finding to those reviews & other opinions.
Everyone of us has our own likes & dislikes so go slowly to find your own.
If you find the first single you buy is a 'winner' come back & ask about similar cigars that you can then try...

OK. Here is the question then. I have 50 quid to spend on cigars. So far I have had

Monte A, a bit of hard work,
        RYJ Churchill very nice
El Ray de Mundo Habano(sp) very nice

        Plus lots of King Edwards

What else then? I like a bigger ring gauge, But thought the Monte took to long at over 2hrs to smoke. Something about the 1/2 hr or to smoke would be ideal.
        What do the panel think?

It's hard just to give someone a list as there is so much personal preference involved but these are the 6 sticks I would chose for about the ?50 mark.

          Diplomaticos #4
          Trinidad Reyes
          Ramon Allones Small Club Corona
          Partagas short
          Cohiba Siglo II
          Hoyo de Monterrey Petit Robusto

All short smokes I have enjoyed very much in the past and the HdMPR will give you a larger RG in the mix.

First off the RyJ churchills are my fave smoke too, there is just no way to fault them in my opinion. A bigger ring gauge but short smoke I'd say try out an RyJ short churchill or for an even larger gauge try the wide churchill? There is the Trinidad Robustos T which I've only heard good things of so give one of those a whirl. Well that's just my opinion as I prefer lighter to medium smokes you can also smoke a cigar for 30 mins then leave it to go out and smoke it later that day just don't ever put a cigar that's gone out back in the humidor as it'll stink it out and ruin your other cigars in there.

No worries with parcels arriving. I'm still looking for a job and Jo works all day. So incoming parcels are no problem. So far I've had lots of "welfare" packages from all you lot to guide me on my way. I haven't spent a penny so far. Officially.

Mark, I'd definately get a Trinidad reyes. That was my first cigar and I absolutely love them.

It's posts like yours that are convincing me more and more to give the Reyes a try as my first one. I have not heard or read a single thing bad about them. Quick question on pronunciation though, is it ray-es or rays? I'm leaning towards the former.

Ray-es seems to be the general consensus - I've yet to hear anyone pronounce it differently. As for the decision to give the Reyes a go... as Nike would say "Just do it!" Great smokes anyway, but seem to have a magical quality of being something to everyone... They're smooth enough and approachable enough for beginners to enjoy, yet there's enough depth there for the seasoned veteran to get his teeth into. Great choice, buy some!

Mark, Monte A's are a grand smoke for after summer BBQ, when as you say, you have the chance to sit still for a couple of hrs & enjoy it. Not to be rushed, nothing worse than feeling you have to smoke faster to get on with some other pressing matter.
If you like the R&J SC, you could try the R&J Wide Churchill, 55R I think. Still take longer than half an hour though. For short smoke try the Petit Robuisto, Hoyo for the mornings or lunch & maybe Trini or Boli for later.
Glad to see you mentioning ERDM, try the Choix Supreme. It's a Hermosa No 4, only a 48R so it smokes a litle quicker, perhaps 40mins compared with 45-50 for a robusto.
Let us know how you get on. Here's a pic of my first Monte 'A' & a couple of the ERDM CS.

Simon, thank you for your words of wisdom, greatly appreciated.
Will have a look and see what the funds will allow. Nice to see you drinking San Miguell. A nice drink. I took several crates to Morocco with me the last 2 years that I've been. A nice refreshing can after a hard days driving in the desert. Perfect. Wish I was into the cigars then as that would of made the day perfect, beer, cigar and the setting sun over the Sahara

I'd just like to echo Symon's comments. Cracking pictures and there's little in the world that looks quite as good as a cab of 50 ERdMs...
