Newbie question re. transporting cigars from airports overseas

Hi all, great forum you all have here! After a lot of research, I have today bought my first cigar, a Montecristo No. 2 (aged for 5 years already, too!).

Just looking for a bit of clarification re. buying cigars from an overseas airport and bringing them back home on a long haul flight. I've read some websites that say that cigars can be ruined in 1-2 hours in non-optimal conditions. The air inside an aircraft is very dry. As such, my questions are:

1. Will the cigars be damaged/dried out on the plane?

2. What is the longest time that cigars can exist outside of a humidor (assuming 22 degrees or so, and fluctuating humidity levels)? I'm wondering about situations where I buy cigars on the way out of the EU, tote them around for 1-2 weeks, and then coming home - is this ok?

Hi and welcome Craig. Go over to Newbie greets and introduce yourself.

Unless subjected to extreme heat and cold for prolonged periods you cigar will be fine for a couple of weeks in a small bag or tube. I would recommend resting in a humi for a few weeks/months to recover before smoking (but not essential).

As said above unless put under extreme coniditions for long periods (very wet or very dry for weeks) they'll be fine.

If I'm planning on buying while away I usually take some sealable bags to transport them in. Never seems to do them much harm. You can get them big enough to fit a complete box in.

you are not going to have any problems with leaving cigars out for a few weeks , if you buy them over here befor you fly just ask for them to be put into a resealable bag , at Heathrow they will do this automaticaly with a spray of water inside, if you are just buying singles take a couple of zip lock bags with you
