Tubes aren't airtight to any decent degree. I had an experience with 5 montes that I took as extras, tubed, on a holiday to Kefalonia, they never came out of my suitcase, about a week after returning when I went to put them back in the humidor they were badly mouldy which had obviously started at the foot end. I believe this was caused by temp variations in a semi-sealed tube.
I would only ever use a tube now for short term transport...& I'll shy away from buying them.
