  • Your 'after eating' smoking routines ....

I've never been to a Stately dinner when at the finish Gentlemen would retire to the Smoking or Billiards Room. I have been to functions and dinners when at the finish (back when it was permissible) people would light up cigars or cigarettes. (I've even seen people smoking between courses, but that's a different matter).

I cannot smoke immediately after a large meal. I need at least 30-60 minutes before I can light-up. At home I usually smoke something Mareva sized, and am fairly confident now with most larger vitola. (Maybe not a Boli BF yet though).

I'm rarely hungry in the morning, so often skip breakfast. I can smoke on an empty stomach, but always keep to smaller milder vitola, demi tasse, purito, carolinas or entractos. I would not attempt to smoke a perla without having eaten.

Lunch for me is usually a modest affair. A round of sandwiches and some soup usually suffices, although again I will often skip. But, as long as I've had something, and have waited a half hour, I can tackle most sizes of cigar up to Piramide, any bigger would be a struggle.

How does your eating schedule affect your smoking habits or vice-versa?
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

    Good question,
I used to feel a little hyper with a big cigar on an empty stomach but haven't had a problem for years..I've never kept to set mealtimes so the timing only matters if I'm not thinking & the call "dinners ready" filters through the cloud of smoke! Do like a cigar before or after any food...

I think also it depends on the strength of the smoke, something light after dinner is usually palattable with me, nothing to dark.

For me, the issue is less about how long after eating I leave it before contemplating 'lighting up', but more about how long I have to enjoy the cigar in question.

Back in the days when smoking in restaurants was legal (and welcomed), I used to plan my various trips and visits (particularly abroad) with military precision.
Researching which restaurants had humidors and were 'cigar smoker friendly - and getting my reservations in early.
(It was an added bonus that they were usually the finer ones).

The downside however, was you needed to pick your Puro with care. More than once I made the mistake of lighting up a D.C. or a Siglo VI, and ending up being the last person to go home.
(I hate being the first one to arrive and the last to leave)

Now I check to see how long I've got before they close the doors before making a selection.
Luckily, at home, I can take as long as I bloody well like! (and I do).

                Queasy.

I too have smoked on an empty stomach in the morning and made myself queasy (RASS at 07:30am is not advised). Much better to have even a small breakfast befpore attempting a cigar IMO.

After an evening meal I like to let my meal settle for 30-45 minutes before sparking a cigar up.

One of my new-found pleasures is hitting 10MS between 3 and 5pm, ordering afternoon tea and working my way through a lovely pile of sandwiches and cakes while smoking. The Early Grey also goes down a treat.

I can't eat while smoking, uless it's nuts etc. I do have to have a good meal if I'm having a long or heavy smoke. First time I smoked a fairly heavy cigar I felt rather sick, so not wanting to go through that again I always try and eat before a smoke. I love one after a big meal with a nice port or spirit.

I only smoke in the evening about an hour or two after my main meal, I have a drink (usualy a liqueur) with it and sometimes a bit of chocolate afterwards.
