  • Pre-cutting cigars?

I've tried it once, and may do again to see how it fairs.

I basically cut the cigar I was planning to smoke the day before and and placed it back in the humi. When I did light it up the next day I had an absolutely perfect draw.

So...... do you think pre-cutting cigars make's any difference (bearing in mind you never knw the draw of a cigar until you do clip it) or is it something you might want to or already have given a go at.

I've often pre-cut a few cigars thinking I was going to smoke them the same day on a drive or visiting a winery. When I haven't ended up smoking them all I would place what's left back in the humidor. Usually I won't get around to using them for a few days and haven't noticed any problems. But, I can't actually say they smoked any different than they would have if I just cut them the day I smoked them. So, I guess what I'm saying is, I don't think it could hurt you to try it some more and see how it works for you. By the way, when I say 'cut' I actually mean 'punch' because that's what I do.

I know someone who swears by cutting his cigars before putting them in the humi, but I always leave mine until I actually want to smoke one.
I cant see how there would be any benefit to cutting and storing? if anyone knows any evidence to the contrary I'd be interested to hear it?
I also have a love of the ritual of clipping, lighting and smoking, it would feel like a chore to sit and clip each and every cigar before it went into my humidor...
      each to their own though.

Watch for unravelling. Have done this before when flying but best avoided IMHO.

I do this occasionally for the same reasons as RickMG. I usually punch too. In my experience I don't think it affects the draw, but if there are inconsistencies in humidification along the cigar then having it open both ends will let it equalise much quicker. Whether this is a good thing or not I couldn't tell you though...

I've found that more humidor time in general, regardless of whether it's been clipped/punched already will usually improve the draw as the tobacco seems to 'relax'.
