Boisdale's big news this year is the opening of their Docklands venue. It sounds impressive and you may want to take a look...

Jimmeh and I know it WELL, lol. Belgravie for cigars, Bishopsgate not so much.
"In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock!"

Boisdale are the best British restaurants in central London with live music. Traditional British food, whisky bars and cigar terraces all with live Jazz.

I am something of a regular to this fine establishment but I have to say I usually take my own smokes. I have brought some very good ones there but I try to chose something really unusual so I can justify the cost. I guess they are 20-30% up on normal UK prices, which is up to 3-4 times what I have paid for some of mine. I think many customers I just putting them on their expense account along with the meal. The other customers or members, have enough money not to worry about the cost & some even buy boxes ect there when they could save money buying from our sponser. The quality is excellent & the surroundings convival; I have met & conversed with a very wide range of cigar lovers there. It's the warmest place to smoke outside in London that I know of & is definatley cheaper than 10 Manchester St.
I took my wife & daughter there in the summer with friends & we had an excellent meal & the ladies enjoyed cocktails after, whilst the gentlemen retired to smoke on the terrace.
Here's a few pic's to wet your appetite.
1/ The view from the Green Cafe across the road. I stop in here for brunch waiting for 1200 opening.
2/ Bit of history here, this was waiting for the Cigar terrace to open, it had been advertised as open but when we got there delays meant it was still months away. So we had to smoke on the street. Pretty awful but nice Monte.
3 &4/ Call in en-route back from 6/52 away on rig & NEBOSHH course, surprised they let me in but I just waved my magic DC about & secured a prime seat.
5/ Just to prove I have brought cigars there, I got caught out once without any & a surprise chance to take my best mate out so we chose these, about ?15 each I believe, very smooth.
6/ Just to prove I don't always turn up looking like a scruff, this was on ladies night mentioned above.
7/ The occasion was my mate's 50th, excellent dinner & live jazz thrown in to, you'll get charged for the Jazz if you stay after 2200 but I think it just added to the evening.
Last tip, if your worried about the pennies drink the beer, at ?4 a pint, it shouldn't hurt too much.

OMFG!!!! Docklands Oh yes I am waiting for that. See being from the east side of london I've got to travel miles just to get to a gar store and they've finally seen sense and are coming to me.

                  Question

Do you have to have a meal there first, to go to the cigar terrace and is it ok to take your own sticks ? As long as you buy drinks or something.

Just had a dreadful thought of me travelling 10 odd miles only to be told to bugger off. Think I may head down there sometime this week in the evening just to satisfy my cravings

No you don't have to eat there, as I mentioned above taking your own stix is perfectly acceptable & if you just want to smoke take a pint or two to the terrace & no one will hassle you. But in the evenngs you should book a table on the terrace, as it gets very busy.

Looks like Simon has spent far more time on the Terrace than I have but I would caution on assuming you can automatically get a spot up there if you are not eating.

It is popular and if you haven't booked a meal and you aren't a member you cant guarantee a table if it's busy. Week day evenings after about 6.00 are busy and it get's busier nearer the week end.

I went with TJ when he came to London for the inaugural Cigar Walk and we had a Friday great evening on the terrace but I had to blag a table as we hadn't planned to eat, when we did want to eat all the tables were booked so we had a burger and a bottle of red wine sitting at the back bar, they do a great burger and it's very good value!

I am building myself up for a huge evening there soon when my mate gets back from Oz after watching all of the Ashes matches.

He is stuck in Brisbane a the moment as the airport is closed due to the floods, when he makes it home we are set for a big evening.

He is then planning to head for rehab!!!

Yes Nic, booking in the evening is a advisable but there are ways around it. Although you'll find all/most of the table reserved, they won't actually be filled till 2030 or later after people have eaten. So if you eat early you can sit there until you have to vacate by then another seat may be available. but the later you are going the less likely you are to get lucky. I usually visit lunch times, when there's stacks of space.

It is expensive but it is a high end venue in one of the most expensive areas in one of the most expensive cities in the world. NB - I would argue that 10MS has more effective heaters for a winter smoke.
