  • Matches or lighter?

    Hi All,

What is everyones choice on lighting a cigar?
I have tried both cigar matches and lighters and although I find it easier to light with a jet flame I think it looks better? lighting from a match?
    Anyone have a preference?

    Gas lighter.

Lot less faff, I found a great gas insert for the old petrol Zippo and I have four of them. Need filling too often but they fire up a cigar really well and saves trees, which is really important!

As I have to smoke outside there is no contest! I use a lighter every time otherwise it would sometimes be impossible to light and at others use many matches. Even a light wind makes it very difficult to use a match.

Matches inside and a lighter for those outdoor moments.

I like the ritual of using 2-3 long matches to light the cigar before I even draw on it... It's very calming!

I'm on my fourth Eurohike... they're brilliant! They don't do them anymore. I also have the Zippo type lighter like Nic's (gifted to me by an extremely generous fella) which is brilliant and looks (and more importantly sounds... "kerching") pure class.

yes, I totally agree on that.. half of the pleasure I get from smoking a nice cigar is the total experience i.e. nice meal, drink and cigar to finish off.
although I suspect this is purely psychological, I find they taste better lit from a match.

                Matches always.

I have always used matches as I enjoy the ritual of toasting the foot using a match rather than using a lighter.

I use a Turboflame that was about 7 or 8 quid off eBay. I actually returned mine under warranty (five years!) and they sent me a new one, no problems.

I keep trying matches now and again but never seem to get on with them.

I love my butane turbo lighters. Have a load of matches but lighters are so much more practical.

Lighters mainly but matches for the ritual.
