My folks are off to Barbados for a break and I was thinking of asking the old man to see what he might pick up from the Duty Free on the way home. Does anyone have any recent experience with what the selection might be like from the Barbados DF shop?

I am only just starting out with this pass-time so don't really want to pick up a box (or two) of 25's just yet and realise that might narrow my choices.

What CC's would you suggest for a newbie that might be available in 3's, 5's or 10's?

So far my experience is limited to RyJ's No1, No2 and Coronitas and I've also tried a Siglo II and enjoyed them all.

    Any advice gladly received...

Playing safe I think I might go for something like:-

    RyJ Short Churchill x 3
    H.Upmann Coronas Junior (Un-tubed) x 5
    HdM Epicure No.1 x 3
    HdM Petit Robusto x 3
    Partagas SD4 x 3
    Montecristo No.2 x 3
    Trinidad Reyes x 5

    and for a little adventure:-
    Partagas Lusitanias x 3
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Grantley Adams duty free has always been pretty hopeless for cigars so basically get what you can... if you ask for specifics you may be disappointed.. you can do some swaps on the forum if you're sampling singles... a bigger variety here than in most duty free...

          hey spirit of will,
just my two penny's worth, for a newbie, i'd suggest/ recommend the following, which are available in packs of 3, 5 or 10!!! they're all pretty reasonable, and not to strong for a beginner!!! these are what i started off with:

romeo y julieta short churchill (robusto approx)
hoyo de monterrey epicure no.2 (robusto)
          montecristo petite tubos/ no.4 (mareva/ petite corona)
          montecristo no.5 (perla/ half corona)
h upmann petite corona (mareva/ petite corona)
trinidad reyes (perla/ half corona approx)
cohiba maduro secretos (perla/ half corona approx)

normally i'd agree with arf (tippex), but personally, for someone starting off, i wouldn't advise to jump straight into partagas or bolivar cigars!!! as much as i love them, i remember the first time i had a partagas seie d 4 robusto!!! i was used to romeo y julietas and the odd montecristo & h upmann, which are pretty light!!! the d4 nearly knocked my block off, lol!!! it didn't put me off though, which i guess is a good thing? lol!!!

          hope this helps!!

          alex

ps: here's a great site for checking up reviews on suggested cigars:
cigars, cuban cigars, cigar reviews, cigar ratings, habanos, cubans, top cigars

I've been through BGI countless times and always remembered the DF shopping to be pretty poor unless looking for litres of Mount Gay or Columbian Emeralds!!! Hence the question... Thanks for setting my expectations at the right level!

@ Tippexx & Sr. Rob - thanks for the suggestions, gives me a short-list to base things on which is exactly what I was after. The Old Man is usually pretty good with these things so I'll try to give him a list of preferences and see what he can find.

              Thank you, gentlemen!

From my very limited experience, i now stick to the well known retailers here at home and the guys on here who trade their excess Cigars.
My recent adventures have been with
                Party series D No4
                San Christobal Muralla
                Monty No 2
                RyJ No's 2 y 3
                Wide Churchills
                Short Churchills
                Party Lusitania

                  Mount Gay rum... huge fan!!!
Also the Cockspur, loving this from the early 80's when a travel rep (full of apologies) asked if we'd mind having 4 bottles of Cockspur as they'd run out of the gift beach towels...Cheers! snatched the poor girls hand orf! Became addicted - end of story!

For some reason my Bajan friends always swerve the Cockspur and only have Mount Gay in the house - must be something to do with the dodgy name!

I do think that the sensible route at this stage in my smoking 'career' is to stick with some of the names that come up time and time again. It's just trying to get a handle on the right brands and sizes that will suit me...

I've got RyJ No1's & No2's in my Humi already and need to try to get/swap some Partagas (can't remember which ones) off my missus' colleague that I brought back from Cuba for him.

The Party D4's and Monty 2's and Short Churchills keep coming up so I think I might aim for some of them next.

Keep the suggestions coming... even if they have been suggested before it all helps!
