  • choosing robusto

Just ordered a box of 25 punch royal selection 11.

now thinking of a box of Robustos for everyday smoking.

    can't decide between:

    1. RASS
    2. SDN4
    3. RyJ short Churchills / Wide churhills
    4. JL2

what's your opinion. RASS is the most likely candidate at the mo.

Out of that list of 4 Its a difficult one, they are all great I do not think you would be making a mistake with any of those, love the Short Churchill, nice and creamy but the RASS and JL2's are great as well.

the JL2s to me are the safest choice, but its kind of , to me, too safe. too balanced sometimes i feel.

Party 4 gives me lots of kick but could be too strong for some ocassion, such as in early mornings

RyJ on the other side of the scale, creamy and smooth but a tad too light after drinking.

tha'ts why I am thinking serously to buy the RASS.

gonna smoke a short churhills tomorow, see if can help me make up my mind

            What about the Bolivar RC?
If not I would go for the PSD4, good solid smoke.

Then, why not just buy five of each and rotate. .... and 5 Boli would make 25.
If you want to, you can.

All good smokes, difficult choice you have there.

If you are going to smoke them on arrival then knowing what box codes are available might help you decide.

My 2006 box of SD4's is a cracker
The 2006 and 2008 RASS I have are very good
IMO the older the better for JL2's
RyJ Short Churchills seem to smoke pretty well from new.

Good advice there Spacemonkey, worth tzking into account Seanbeer. Not sure why your heading towards the RASS though? A great smoke but would you reallysmoke one in the morning?
As you only brought your first box recently, instead of tying yourself to just 25 of either of your choice I'd go with Tippex a suggest a selection of each. Matching the smoke for the time of day & after which meal, is part of the fun for me;, rather than trying to fit one stick to all ocassions.

buying 25 coz I want to start 'buy in boxes' now. if i start buying boxes. say 1 every 2 /3 months, then slowly, my stock will build up then i will end up with some 'aged' stock myself. I smoke only 2/3 per week.

besides, opening a new box is such a kick that I want to do it more often.

I smoked a RASS 2 weeks ago, gonna have a RyJ Short Churchy this afternoon. I smoke enougy JL2 beofore, all i need to do is have a d4 during chrismtas then i can decide.

at this momemnt of time i try to have a collection of different size so as to accomodate different smoking occasion and mood.

small, quick, morning smoke : Trini Reyes
Robustos for late morning, lazy afternoon, quick evenign smoke : YET TO DECIDE
Corona Gorda mainly for late morning, lazy afternoon smoke : Punch RS NO.11 (aka PUNCH PUNCH)
Selection of some DCs Churhills and RE bought as singles (for herfing, evening smoke)

had the short churchills this afternoon. damn, its great !

started of light and smooth, then came the creamy smoke, honey, milk, butter, double cream, floral notes and a nutty and more earthy final 3rd.

almost like a Cohiba, just lack the spice and a little bit less sweet.

great puff I am sure. more complex then the wide churchills, but the wide churhills taste more elegant
