Its my dads birthday coming up soon. He'll be 45 and I dont know which cigar to get him. Do i get him a rstic cuban or do i go for the chivalrous montecristo? would be great to get recommendations and links. thanks '')

I'm not sure what he actually smokes. I think he's only ever smoken a cigar twice. I thought it would be a nice surprise to shock him with a cigar. He'd be concerned and impressed with my knowledge "D.

I'll give you three options for Cubans, take 'em or leave 'em, plus a little factoid so you can impress your dad.
1)you can't go wrong with a Montecristo No 2. Second most popular Cuban in the world, plus it's a big, impressive looking son-of-a-bitch.
2) A Romeo y Julieta Churchill - Sir Winston's cigar of choice (probably because it was made for him
).
3) A Cohiba Siglo VI - Cohiba was originally a brand exclusively made for visiting dignitaries. It was introduced to the general public relatively recently (last 20 years? Not sure), and its name is synonymous with high quality and, unfortunately, the price tag reflects this. The Siglo VI is a great cigar.
The best places in the UK to buy any of these cigars are:
My Smoking Shop generally comes out cheapest, but they have a slightly smaller selection. Should be able to get any of the above from any of the sites though - they are fairly common. If you want to get an aged cigar from 1988, you may well be able to find one, but aging tends to make cigars a little more expensive and harder to come by. C.Gars and My Smoking Shop both have an "Aged Cigars" section so you can have a look, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find a cigar from 1988.
Oh, and remember to tell him to smoke it before it dries out. You can buy things that will keep your cigar humidifed, but probably not worth it for a one-off. Let us know how you get on!I'm still waiting for the whiskey to whisk me away

R&J Churchill tubos is the classic for this situation. Great cigar, everyone's heard of them by name & association, not too powerful for the occasional smoker (so long as they take it slow) & the tube will help keep it in decent nick for a few weeks.
Don't forget to get him a cutter & some cigar matches. These will probably come with it if you order online from eg CGars.Comment
