Hey so I hope this is in the right section.

So I am 19 and I have started Nursing School and I am killing myself with stress. I saw my first dead body week ago and I NEED to relax and one of the head nurses said he smokes a cigar once a week and drinks a small cup of Whisky.

So I thought I would give it ago, I do not smoke Cigs and never will. I had my first whole cigar last night very cheap cigar ?3.75 =D brought another today that cost more ?7:99. I want to only smoke them Saturdays.

BUT I am not 100% sure I am doing it right! I can't seem to just take it into my mouth got any tips for first timer?

The cigar I brought is called Petit Corona Macanudo dunno if anyone knows it.

Well just want some tips on how not to kill myself while trying relax

Any help would be great. Or any advice on if I should do it or not at all

Well i wouldnt recommend drinking or smoking for the reasons you say , you should talk to your peers or lecturer, or even if the sight of cadavers causes so much stress maybe a job change , but my guess would be it gets easier .
On the other hand if you enjoy the Cigar experience check out you tube, for smoking tips inc videos. Some of the guys here might give you a link.
      All the best.

Welcome anyway, I'm sure you'll garner a lot of knowledge from this place.

As for not inhaling, try sucking in with your cheeks, not your lungs

The most important thing was, did you enjoy it?
What was the second cigar you bought?
Imagine you're sipping the cigar like it's a straw in a drink. I had trouble at first too; just try another cigar. Occasionally some are rolled too tight to get enough smoke out which may have been the cause.
Welcome btw. Pop over to Newbie Greets and say hello.

            Hi and welcome.

Cigars are not strong narcotics and as (you will be well aware) self-medication is a slippery slop.

I think if you enjoy a cigar it will help you relax but I find it hard to condone a regular dose of nicotine and alcohol just to cope at 19 years old.

Please understand I am not trying to judge and I can not imagine some of the stresses in you chosen profession. Have you considered sports, gym, or almost anything non-chemical based to help relax on your down-time?

              hello 'questions 180',
i'm afraid i'm gonna have to echo monkey's sentiments here, you'll not get anyone here recommending or condoning nicotine or alcohol consumption, no matter how small the doses, at 19 just to cope!!! i definitely recommend some form or physical or mental exercise if you're stressed out........ perhaps you should look into something holistic, a nice hot bath with relaxing essential oils (such as lavender and frankincense) works wonders for me!!!

saying that, i do like relaxing with a nice cuban cigar and a tasty alcoholic drink, then again, i am pretty stress free most of the time!!!

no the risks and make an informed judgement, stress will kill you quicker than the occasional Cigar.
You employer should give you access to some form of counseling to help you deal with the stress of your job, it is always a bit of a shock the first time you encounter the dead, a person being cold and lifeless is not what you have ever been used too, time and more experience in the job will make it easier to deal with.

Many things worry me about your comments and motivations, questions180, but I think that much of this has been covered by my fine BOTLs here.

Stress is a bad thing, but you need to bear in mind what's de-stressing you about smoking a cigar. I'll give you a clue: it ain't the nicotine.

For most people, a large part of the reason for smoking cigars is to have an house or two away from it all, with just you and your thoughts. It's one of life's great pleasures, and it's a great way to relax. Nicotine is a stimulant, and will not make you less stressed - if anything, it'll make you feel MORE stressed.

If you were saying to me that you love cigars because of the flavour, or the feel of the smoke in your mouth, etc., I'd be giving you a list of smokes to try next. However, thus far you don't seem to have given me any motivations that couldn't be replaced with an hour's walk in the woods. This isn't a criticism, I'm just suggesting that you really think about why you want to smoke cigars. If you think that you might actually enjoy cigars themselves, then go for it

Anyhoo, on to stress - you have a tought job, and it's going to be stressful. People cope with stress in different ways, and it's important to find the one that works for you - I talk to my wife, I play PC games, I get lost in a film. I don't smoke cigars - for me, cigars are an enhancement to an already pleasurable experience, so I'd smoke to accompany a walk, socialising or a camping trip. Personally, I don't go down the road of "boy, I'm really stressed, I need a smoke."

And make no bones about it, smoking cigars is bad for you and it's expensive. I'm sure you've thought all of this through, but don't get mixed up in cigars unless you're prepared to accept that your health and wallet may suffer.

                      OK, scaremongering over

Your job sounds very interesting and varied, BTW.
I'm still waiting for the whiskey to whisk me away
And I'm still waiting for the ashtray to lead me astray
