As a novice cigar smoker i would value the thoughts of you more experienced smokers, my smoking experience is limited to Partagas Lusitanias, Romeo y Julietta No3's, some Dominican Churchills and some b4 i knew better King Ed's, and 2 different Monte Christos, the 1 i have just smoked a Petit Tubos and a larger 1 whilst on holiday, both of the Monte Christos have left me feeling slightly unwell, nothing i have smoked has had this effect on me previously.
    I do not inhale.

Seems a bit odd to me given that Montes tend to be on the milder side, in my opinion. Did you have a full meal beforehand, or were you at least not hungry at all?

Todays smoke was an R&J No 1 and no adverse reaction, just the nice buzz from a good cigar.

        hey joao,
i had a similar experience myself recently!!! i bought a montecristo petite tubos from an off license, it was on the dry side!!! anyway, it was ghastly, i smoked it hoping it would improve!!!! it didn't!!! i was left with an unpleasant feeling, not quite sickly........ something just wasn't right!!! i would also like to point out that i mainly smoke partagas & bolivar cigars, so i'm used to cigars with a bit of oomph!!!!

saying that, i was never the biggest montecristo fan!!!! however, i do like the monte 2, 3, 5 and petite edmundo....

anyway, i'm kinda pinning the blame on the fact it was the dryness that caused this!!! god knows how long it was sitting there as well!!! anyway, we live and learn........

        hope this is of help,

        alex

Some are obviously stronger than others. Just make sure you eat before you smoke if it's a problem.

I remember a very interesting time I had with a RASS when I hadn't eaten all day. It took me back to my days as a schoolboy puffing on a Chesterfield and going very green.

lol, it's been quite some time from i was knocked sideways by a cigar (and yes, it was a bolivar), the monte PT i had wasn't a strong cigar, there was simply something not right with it!!! i'm thinking that if it was dried out and sitting in said humidor for a year or so, perhaps it was, simply put, 'OFF'!!!

what was the condition of your montecristo cigar, joao? was it dry or anything?

Now you mention it both were bought from less than high class establishments, the first i smoked straight away, the one this week i had kept in the humidor for 2 weeks, so who knows, just to be on the safe side i will buy one from a proper cigar shop and see how it goes.
