I think it is quite straight forward in a basic sense.

Blue chip CC's gain 5-10% per year. For instance a box of PSD4's about ?250 new, a 10 year old box about ?500, a 20 year old box about ?1000

However for that gain you need to factor in several costs and variances:
      The initial cash requirement
Storage (that need to be temp and humidity controlled for investment purposes).
      Insurance
      Risk (fire/flood/weavles etc)
      Market fluctuation
      Currency fluctuation
      Production rate variation
Unknown ageing factors (can anyone say Monte D EL 2006)
      Supply and demand
      Documented provenance

So the short answer is you can make some money, the long answer is far more complex.

In many ways wine funds are more stable because there are not going to be any new Premier Cru's anytime soon, the model is proven and the supply is very limited (and controlled) for first growths etc. Cuba is a little more unstable.

IMHO - If you could afford the initial outlay and the delay in seeing a return there is money to be made but I suspect it would not make a strong investment case from a start-up point of view.

I think one other point is how you would eventually sell them- presumably your main route to market is an auction and they charge a substantial commission

While it might be fun there are probably better and more secure things you could invest in. Ageing cigars for me would be more about personal enjoyment and the fact that i bought the cigars cheap years ago and if i wanted to smoke something similar today, if i could find it, it would cost a small fortune. I like to keep business and pleasure separate otherwise it would take the enjoyment out of smoking.

                  Cigars for Investment

A serious cigar collector i assume that he would store his investment properly.
A serious cigar collector he sould be a serious cigar smoker.
Always will be collectors around that wants to buy.
Could spend thousants and thousands of pounds yearly to collect, the variety is huge therefore the collector should limit his preferences according to his buying power.
To start with the LEs since are better smokes buy 2 boxes smoke 1 and keep the other.
The REs buy 1 to keep and a few sticks to try.
Reserva series another star to buy.
The Porcelain Jars is a fantastic choice (especially for me).
The book collection is another interesting item.

Personally i like to collect it doesn't interest me if and how much i will sell.

I would also vote for the jars. The lgc's are 3 times in the uk what they cost in cuba. That's why i now have 6 in the humi

3 are mine and 3 are the step dads but he doesn't have enough storage space. He might be willing to sell one if the offer was right. Me I'm too mean to let one go at any price
