  • South African Find

Hi guys, I’m wondering if we have any cigar history buffs in the mix that can shed some light on some cigars found by a friend.

A good friend of mine married a fine South African woman and they’ve unfortunately had to go to Pietermaritzburg to empty out the house of a deceased relative.

While clearing out the belongings of the deceased they’ve come across a box of cigars and I’ve offered to try and help get some information. They seem to have faired quite well in the climate despite not being in a humidor, but it’s fairly tropical. There’s mention of them being Cuban and I’d guess there’s a good bit of age on them.

I won’t have photos of the actual sticks until tomorrow but I’ve got a couple of the box and the paper inlay.

      They look like Dutch cigars/cigarillos.

The address is in the Netherlands. If they're Dutch cigars they probably wouldn't need a humidor. I keep a box like that loose in the shed and they remained perfectly smokeable.

Thanks guys, well I must say I thought these were going to be a bit more exciting but it appears they're just a dutch blend from a long since closed B&M in south west of the Netherlands. I've been offered them so I'll take them and see how they smoke.

For anyone to have them by the box, I'd imagine one of two things. They were gifted and they were terrible so never smoked, orrrrrr.......theyre absolurlte bangers, bought & stored by the truck load. My hope is obviously for the latter. 🤞🏼

The Dutch have a great tradition with so called “dry cigars” that can be smoked everywhere regardless of humidity. Usually machine made and short filler. Still plenty on the shelves in the Netherlands.
SA has (had) a strong relationship with the Netherlands and this company seems it got its tobacco from around the W. Text says a melange of Brasil, Cuba and Java (former Dutch colony).
Bet they're dry cigars, so light'em up.
