  • Getting touched up...

For a good while I have been letting my cigars try and correct themselves from an uneven burn thinking that extra heat & butane would tarnish the flavours, but more recently I have been touching them up more regularly and have found that they actually taste much nicer. I think Bigdog alluded to this in a previous post, making sure they burn an even amount of wrapper, binder & filler.

    Interested to know your thoughts..

If they are going to correct themselves they do so pretty quickly I think? Otherwise I concur, just touch up the unburnt side. Not noticed any ill effects.

It's annoying when you get that hard ash that you just can't burn away sometimes!

Here's a write up from Mike Choi https://www.boutiquesmokes.co.uk/blo...burn-baby-burn

Also if a cigar starts to go out that can affect the taste. So I'd rather knock off any ash and touch it up.

Quite disappointing content really considering the title of the thread!

I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

Reading the mark choi article, the part where mark explains about the use of boveda packs, in my experience and using boveda continuously for the last 3-4 years I disagree, I have never noticed any moisture being leaked from any of my boveda packs ie moving a boveda pack and a damp spot being left behind, in all explanation’s I’ve seen previously by boveda it’s stated boveda pack’s absorb as well as expel moisture, boveda states (correctly in my experience) that the use of boveda packs as cigar partition’s, boveda packs touching cigars etc is completely fine and also advised, just thought I’d add my 10p worth lol, a probably 2 year old pic of my humidor, boveda being used with no adverse affects, I still use the boveda strategy (the more the merrier) now

I thought he was talking about laying Bovedas resting on top of cigars. I mean what idiot would do that!?!?

Yh, to be fair I’m guilty of laying small boveda’s randomly all over my cigars also🤷🏻😶‍🌫️😎, I’ll post an up to date pic of my humidor when I get home from work, it’s not that exciting at the minute though unfortunately lol

Construction can be to blame. I’ve noticed smoking outside in a breeze (or wind, even worse) V cuts & punch cuts can cause/increase uneven burn.

Yeah, I've had some pretty bad tunnelling from poorly packed Cubans. Often I find if they're well-rolled and well-smoked then any wavy burn will sort itself given time.

I think I'm quite a slow smoker so that doesn't help either.

Slower is usually better imo, smoking too fast can cause an excess of wrapper burning and a coned cherry. You effectively want the red bit to be as flat and even as possible, to ensure you're getting all the right components in the correct quantities.
