  • How long does it take you to smoke a cigar?

Some stores list a smoking time in the details about the cigar. Which (here we go) I disagree with! And for me, they are not just a bit out, way out! There's not even a range often, like a precise time to the minute!

    I put aside for a
    Petite Robusto 60mins+
    Petite Corona 90mins
    Robusto 90mins
    Double Corona 2+hrs

    A couple of shop examples
    45 mins https://www.cgarsltd.co.uk/bolivar-r...le-p-1090.html https://www.davidofflondon.com/produ...-royal-coronas
    40-50 mins https://www.jjfox.co.uk/bolivar-royal-coronas-568.html

    60+ mins https://www.cgarsltd.co.uk/hoyo-mont...gle-p-474.html

Who hoofs down a robusto in 45mins!?

Imagine being new to cigars and walking into a store saying i want an hour long cigar and they offer you a DC. Hah.

I'm with you on the smoking times ha_banos
I find if I smoke too fast it just ruins the flavour of the cigar so I prefer to sip it slowly.

This is actually a very good point! If those times result in someone smoking too fast, can spoil the cigar! Some say can cause a mouse hole burn too. So far many reasons not to smoke fast.

Great question! I find Cgars especially list their smoking times on the shorter side.

        For me personally:
        Petite Corona ~60mins
        Robusto 75-90mins

With winter creeping in, its hard to stay outside more that 90mins as the cold creeps in 😂

I’m sure I have read somewhere on some conniseurs smoking cigars until there are three fingers width left of the cigar. Perhaps the smoking times emanate from that measure?

I once nerfed a P2 in 42 minutes, but I was walking the dog, it was cold and I had a proper stomp on.

I’m an advocate of slow smoking, I think it makes a huge difference. I’ll allow an hour for a party short/monte 5/Bolivar CJ. I also think length of cigar is more relevant than RG when it comes to smoke time. I can easily get 2 hours from a lanceros but would struggle to match that with a robusto , dispite the two having similar (I would guess?) amounts of tobacco.

I tend to be like that too. Often I'm much slower smoking the same cigar as a mate of mine when we smoke together. I think it changes the flavour experience as well, as faster smoking leads to hotter. Exception being this time of year when its cold/wet/blowing a gale I can find myself rushing through a cigar

Zino also an advocate of slow partial cigar smoking! There's also this set of etiquette rules from the ZD essay

Don't puff more than once a minute.

Don't smoke more than half of a cigar.

                  A copy of the rules

“Don’t smoke more than half a cigar”

I don’t understand this or am I being thick ?

It’s an excellent rule. I would always advocate it too if I sold cigars..

also always trade your car in when hits 1000miles, only drink half the bottle of wine and order a new one, and apparently my watch can only be looked at a limited number of times before I have to discard and buy another.

Most of the rules l agree with, but don’t smoke more than half? No way and if you are enjoying it smoke it down to the roach. I particularly enjoy the peppery flavour of the last third and tend to smoke it until it becomes bitter to my taste.

But like all self indulgent habits. The best way to enjoy a cigar is the way that makes you happy.

Churchill was quoted as saying the sencond half of a Cuban was as bad as a non cuban & famously ditched large butts.

Personally I am nearer the Store quoted time than Banos! ERDM DT up to 40mins, PC 45-50mins, Robusto 50+, Julieta No2 90 mins, Diadems 200mins! I have spent yrs smoking outside & I hate relightlighting to do tend to puff to keep it going. But some Scandinavian chap reckoned on 3hrs for a Boli CG & you just have to wonder: Why? How? & who has that time & patience. I'd rather be smoking a different cigar by then.

However, with today's Cuban prices, especially in lounges, I can see slow smoking catching on.
