I've been reading with interest an article about the Cigar Rights of America organisation.

Very interesting regarding their lobbying against increasingly draconian U.S legislation for Cigar smokers.

If a chapter or similar organisation with similar aims was to start up here, would members of UKCF consider signing up?

Anyone of our U.S BOTLs have any dealings with the CRA?

I suspect I would consider it. Though it would largely depend upon who was running it, what their exact aims were, and (most importantly) how they intended to achieve them.

        Taken from the CRA's website:

        CRA's MISSION

Cigar Rights of America (CRA) was founded on the principle of fighting for the freedom to enjoy cigars.

CRA is a consumer-based, non-profit public advocacy organization that works at the local, state, and federal level of government to protect the freedoms of cigar enthusiasts.

Together, with our constituency of nationwide members, we focus our fight for freedom in two main areas:
        - Oppose Restrictive Smoking Bans
        -
        Oppose Taxation of Cigars

I'd sign up to that. I'd like to see legalised cigar bars.
I'm still waiting for the whiskey to whisk me away
And I'm still waiting for the ashtray to lead me astray

I've always wanted to be part of a 'Chapter'.

In the interests of Full Disclosure and while I applaud the good intentions of Cigar Rights of America, I must point out (I must, I must) that so far I have yet to see any "rights" protected or restored to my fellow cigar smokers in the USA.
If I'm wrong, please bring me up to date (please, please).

True dat, cbob, and I would just say it ain't gonna happen, gents. Whatever rights you'd like to reinstall, and I'm all for most of them, the current mood is that smoking amounts to the veritable 'evil that men do'. Just think about your common smoking movie character--almost without fail, that person signifies the antagonist, or at least the essentially flawed character. Never mind that some 60 percent of the U.S. is currently overweight or even obese; the smoke will kill ye, but supersizing it will satisfy ye.

And that there might be a distinction between cigars and cigarettes? Distinctions are for academics, who are merely peddlers in over-informed and subversively crafted lies.

Whoops, methinks I've entered the 'rant zone'. 'Tis now closed for renovation. Smoke if you got em, but not in the public space.

Maybe if the CRA joined forces with the NRA? Different story.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

                    Or a CRA/NRA/IRA alliance?

Would have to insist that the CRA take sole responsibility for bombing though.

                      Not a bit of it!
Few things in life are as wondrous to behold as a well thought argument, articulately written.
Perceptive and thought provoking - my congratulations Sir.

If I was a chick, I'd want you to father my children.
I can think of no higher praise!

Why thank you, Kind Catman, though I think my wife might have something to say about the second sentiment. Well, actually, maybe not.
