  • Lowering humidity

Hey guys, I’m sure someone on here will have a solution to this.

My humidor seal isn’t the best, one of those big Habanos cabinets filled with 65% Boveda with wind strip seals around the door.

Generally it’s ok, hovers between 61% in the summer to around 68% in the autumn when it was wet but heating wasn’t on. Now the heating is on it’s holding a steady 65-66%.

The main issue I had was the top shelf in the autumn could get up to the lower 70’s. I thought about maybe throwing some cat litter in a dish and putting it on the top shelf in the spring if the same thing happens again but is there a better solution?

Surely there has to be, I thought about replacing the 65 Boveda with 62’s in those months but when they’re plump and full I don’t think they absorb much?

    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

HOw are you measuring the humidity in the top part? Not relying on the built in hygrometer in the roof are you? Not very accurate compared with a couple of digital hygros'. Mine reads a few % more than the digital's up there.

I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

My analogue is in the centre of the door and is surprisingly accurate!

I have 3 digital hydrometers, one bottom, top and middle so I know it’s within a couple of % of accuracy and it’s definitely only the top shelf where the humidity is rising as I moved them around to see if it was a problem with one of the hydrometers.

Perhaps its time to change to Heartfelt beads

I’ve only found them available in the US, been trying to get some since I bought the cabinet.

Do you have a link to any in the UK?

Sadly not, you have to order from the US and may incur import duty, I did but some got away with it. Don't waste your money buying their bags, use a pair of tights or put them in trays which is what I've done. It gives more surface area.

Thanks, I’ll have another look and get some ordered.

I have two trays in here containing 1lb of beads each, works perfectly.

Yes I imported mine from the US but I believe you can get some from Germany but probably not much difference in import duty now post Brexit.
