  • I have a problem with taste...

Since I got back from Cuba, nothing is smoking well - everything I try, montes, partagas, bolivar - everything tastes so mild and almost without taste.

What the hell is going on?

I was smoking strong cigars out there, but I was also smoking a lot of monte 2's - all tasting great. I really don't know what's happened to my palette!

I've had that about about 4 months ago, lasted quite a while too. Strangely I finally narrowed it down to my diet.
Have you started eating anything different or cut back on anything?

Not that I believe. Maybe a lot of coffee this week, but I was drinking strong coffee there anyway. Really p*ssing me off tbh!

Are you coming down with a cold, my taste buds are screwed at the moment due to flu. I'm sure I got it from the air circulation on the plane

                  Or the simple one...

Don't have a smoke for a week or two and then come back to taste the nector!!!!

                  Time away from cigars works...IMHO

Did you go mad on smokes over there and made your pallette a bit jaundiced?

Could it be the pressure differentials instigated by a change in climate, perhaps interfering with the molecular taste structures of the leaf...? They might just be too fresh and may need ageing a bit...?

Try hydrating yourself, it is very easy to become dehydrated without realising it, especially if you have been somewhere warm and hitting the alcohol a bit harder than usual, and dehydration plays havoc with your taste buds. I sometimes force myself to drink 4-6 pints of weak squash or water over a couple of hours to rehydrate. Remember you become dehydrated long before you feel thirsty. Also if cigars or anything taste a bit more peppery it's also a sign of being a bit dehydrated.

Also you might be coming down with something, my reliable cigars over the last 2 days have seemed a little off and I've just woken up from a massive headache and phoning Huey on the white porcelain phone lol. If something doesn't feel right it probably isn't.

I usually find that after a week or 3 on The Island, smoking waaaay more than my usual allotment of Habanos, I'm a bit "smoked out" when I get home. Try a few days of abstinence and see if that helps.

Do we get a BIG post about your Cuba trip Deano or have you done one and I missed it?
