  • Trying to identify model of cigars?

    Hi all,

I have the opportunity to buy some of these cigars. I know the brands are VegaFina and Montecristo but does anyone know the particular models? I know the Montecristo is possibly a No.2 but I was just unsure if they made a similar shape in the past. The VegaFina I can't identify at all. I can't find a similar Cigar with the bold VF in black on the label. Supposedly they're around 15 years old these cigars.

Yes, that's a Monte No2. Go for it!

Those Montes have the old bands on them (prior to 2012) so a good bit of age to them... All least 10 years

Check they've been stored properly though.

The VF could be a Churchill. Look longer than the no.2

I would say its an old band but I don't know when they changed to the new one exactly but at least ten years old as I bought some with the new bands then.

Nice work well done, get a big 65 boveda in there and see how long it lasts (humidor May not be seasoned and cigars might be on the dry side). Wooden humidors like that are likely to be a bit leaky so getting a boveda in there a good idea.

Or, transfer to a Tupperware with a boveda and season your new wooden humidor (forum search)! Tupperware is like a Casio - tells the time better than a mechanical Rolex but looks much pooer.

The plan is to move them all into tupperware and season the humidor then move them all back in. I've done the pinch test and they're not too dry or soft but I won't be smoking one for a while to make sure they're all good.

The humidor actually has a slight warp so there is small air gap on one side so I've got 72% Bovedas coming in the post so I'll gauge after that if 72 will be enough.

I might just put a bottle of whisky on top to weigh down the gap!! 😆

You could shove a hygro in there to measure the humidity first so you know what you're dealing with. Nice work. How's the aromas?

This is a good plan. You don’t want to shock them either if they’re far from your target RH. Bring them around slowly.

Thanks, I'll get a hygrometer in there and then slowly introduce them if need be.
