  • Fakes on well known UK auction aggregation site

As this is a hot topic and they keep sending me these in emails. In the hope to spread awareness among lurkers and guests too. Please don't be fooled. Plenty of fake boxes in the second hand market.

You'd have thought auctioneers would have some scruples. They DGAF. Sell them the fakes.

The obvious one is the missing factory and date stamp from the bottom.

I've contacted the aggregation site on more than one occasion regarding obvious fakes and they couldn't give a shite. Mostly they just ignore my emails and say "caveat emptor" and it's not their responsibility... Tossers!

I think that's at least 3 of us from this forum. It's just the way of things. The second hand markets across most things are buyer beware. Ignorance is indeed bliss.

Dude you should cobble together some code to make an easy validation service API. Pull in Habanos checker, sanity check date codes to box date, and maybe some Google Vision on the stickers and watermarks.

Should be able to sell that to auction/aggregation sites or end consumers to give it a green tick. with the values being traded nowadays it’s a no brainer to pay a little bit for secure validation

All good ideas Shaaz but the site doesn't care at all. They're only interested in their commission
