How others see us

Is it just me that this happens too.

When I'm smoking a cigar either at my local or walking in the park or even sat outside my own home i often get dirty looks or comment muttered under their breath makes me feel like I am doing something wrong sometimes

I usually smoke at home myself but I cant think of a couple of reasons.

1) Smoking is well in decline and a large chunk of the population hate it.
2) People think those who smoke cigars are filthy rich and they get jealous of your perceived wealth.

I understand that smoking in general is on its way out but vaping is ok it still doesn't effect anyone else when I'm smoking I don't smoke next to someone I will move myself away from everyone and sit in a corner smoking alone just hate the looks I get when I'm there.

As for the perceived wealth its just that perceived wealth I wear tatty jeans badly fitting shirts and enjoy 1 maybe 2 drinks whilst there (not a huge drinker) so I spent what money I have spare on cigars I don't do drugs or go out every weekend cigars are my enjoyment and I feel being judged on my hobby not habit is a bit unfair I don't judge others for what they chiose to spent their money or time on

Unfortunately people in general will always bunch cigars in with cigarettes.

Vaping and shisha are the only acceptable forms of smoking around where I live so I only smoke in my garden or very occasionally a cigar friendly lounge.

Not really a big issue for me as I enjoy the peace and quiet to be honest

Yeah although people who smoke cigarettes don't get the looks cigars smoker do I too prefer the peace of smoking at home but sometimes it's nice just to sit elsewhere and watch the world go by with a stick and a cold beer

Hahaha 😆 I'm not bothered to the point it keeps me up at night just gets a little annoying when it happens everytime only ever had 1 guy come up to me and talk cigars everyone else just judges through their rose tinted glasses

I don't think generally people know how expensive cigars are/can be. Especially after recent increases!

It could be that were told of the risks of passive smoking? This is quite well publicised. But I'm sure you give people space. So who knows!

but cigars… i find both extremes. Those for whom the scent takes them back to an old memory experience or perception, and this who are more extreme. I tend to keep mine to the great outdoors, where shoving off to a better spot is entirely possible … for the objector or me!

Yeah vaping really gets to me too huge cloud of crap but I don't judge people for doing it nor would I look at them with the stink eye that I seem to receive if it was really getting to me I would just move to a different spot out the way of the cloud and smell of twice ripened polished cherry (or what ever crappy name the liquid has lol), I was thinking earlier if it was just me that got this when I smoke outside or if its a thing that happens to us all

It is a bit unusual to see someone smoking a cigar just in a park or walking around, the image people have of cigars is one of celebration or the high life with brandy after dinner in your Downton Tux, so I guess it would be like walking around sipping Dom Perignon to most people and thus would draw looks as it seems out of place or perhaps showing off. I would take it as a compliment that you are not just another sheep of the masses.
