More HSA cigar price increases coming soon

I think the main reason we’re complaining is the years of bargain prices from Switzerland has made the hobby much “cheaper” than it perhaps should’ve been.

I could be wrong but I vaguely remember reading a discussion about pricing on another forum and the prices pre this latest increase are the same as the early 00’s.

I don’t smoke enough for the price increases to really affect me, I certainly won’t be buying any Cohiba or Trinis but I’ll continue to collect regular production at current prices when travelling in Europe or passing through duty free.

The way I view it is if a good smoke costs me £15 that’s about the same as a double G&T anywhere nice near me. I’d rather have 90 minutes by myself with a D4 in my garden for the same price.

Also having to buy 25 at a time makes it expensive, hopefully a few of us can all get a away this summer and do some box splits.

I'm looking to smoke more NC's at the minute but mainly because the shortages have meant prices currently are way above the 10% mark up, and no one has any stock of the sticks I want. If stock returns to normal levels and I can buy at a decent(ish) price again I can see me returning to mainly Cubans.

Nothing wrong with smoking NC’s imo. The only problem I have with them is the sheer number to wade through and finding honest reviews. Even the ones that taste shit have good construction at least…

I’m open to trying more NC definitely, the limited number I have tried for the most part have been decent. I’m still yet to find one that make me fall in love like the best Cuban’s although admittedly the quality of Cubans is somewhat hit and miss and at the higher prices it makes it harder to just throw away a bad stick and light another.

I suppose this is the first time I’ve felt that I can get better value elsewhere… I know the big price increases relate to a relatively narrow range of CCs but I think compared to 18months ago the price of D4s is quite a bit more. This time last year I could find D4 for around 30% less than I can at the moment.

January 2021 I bought a 25 cab of HDM Epi 2s. They worked out at £6 a stick. The only place in Switzerland that have them in stock now is Montefortuna. £423 a cab or £17 a stick.

2021 Swiss price wouldn’t have been close to £6 a stick though so you got an incredible deal as that’s more like Cuba price a decade ago. There’s a big increase heavily pushed by the shortages so shops chancing it but generally seems more like 50% up in most examples

I also went to Cuba last July and came back with 10 partagas salamons, 25 upmann propios LE 2018, 10 Partagas D4, 10 San Cristobal Prado, 15 le hoyo de rio seco,10 montecristo no. 2 and 10 Punch la Isla. They worked out at £9 a stick on average.
