Mouldy Tubos

Hey guys,

After going through my cigars the other day I noticed both tubos seem to be getting mould, which is unusual as the rest of my cigars are fine.

I store them in my makeshift humidor and they are kept in their tubes with the lids on - is this okay?

I have noticed the humidity has gone up a fair bit since moving to a new property, I'm still using the same setup.

Anyway, have a look and give me your thoughts... as always - thanks guys!

At 63% RH you shouldn’t get mouldy.

Either way whether bloom or mould I’ve smoked cigars that have seemed quite funky but we’re fine and I didn’t die of some strange mouldy lung situation.

As long as the foot doesn’t look fuzzy inside I’m sure you’ll be ok.

Personal preference at the end of the day.

So the drill is, if the foot is clear, just dust it off. It looks light enough not to be a big issue.

If humidity is stable - and it should be fairly as you use boveda, no? Then it could be temp. Also I tend to open the humidor regularly so get stale air out.

I don't know how folk who seal boxes in bags don't get mould issues. Perhaps temp is low enough and humidity is lower to start with. 22C is higher than I'd like it longer term. Room temp here is more like 18. No more than 20C is the usual guide.

Brush the mold off, let them stabilise outside of the tubo's then reseal for aging if that's what you're after.
Sticking closed tubo's in your humidor you'll often get mouldy sticks as they travel a little wetter.

I’ve only ever had personal experience of mould in sticks in Tubos so I just don’t store them in them as it never seems to go very well

Yeah, I'm tempted to put the tubes to the side and leave the sticks in the humidor once I've left them outside to stabilise first. I can always put them back in the tubes if I plan on taking them with me somewhere.
