Is it worth it to import cigars from abroad or not have looked at a few sites and they seem to be stupidly cheap and I don't know if 1 I trust them and 2 if it would be cheaper still after tax is paid?

It's against forum rules to discuss illegally trying to import tobacco. Be interested in hearing your story if you do go through bona fide import process these days as might have now changed. Since Brexit n all.

At £305 per kilo plus whatever else they slap you with it’s just not worth it even if it is an easy process to complete the correct forms which in itself is highly doubtful.

Get your Mrs or a mate or 2, do your research as to what shops are where, fly to Spain or Germany on the earliest flight, spend the day exploring the city whilst grabbing your smokes (50 per person duty free back to the UK) and get a late flight home.

Obviously COVID testing requirements and pricing might make this difficult at the moment but overall much better than paying the duty on having anything shipped in.

Probably easier and quicker to grow your own and learn to roll them yourself than paying HM thiefs opps I mean customs

Super thank you all for the help guess I will pass on importing some not that I'm against the tax and I would have paid it no problem just wondered if it still worked out cheaper than UK prices, with the baby here now no chance of a trip abroad to get some just yet I'll have to wait a little longer

Not really HM customs, they are only enforcing successive Governments tobacco tax policies.
Blame a governments need for tax revenue and tobacco being a socially unacceptable and therefore an easy popular way of raising funds.

Okay seeing as I am not importing now can anyone recommend any UK based sellers other than the forum sponsor or is that not okay to do in a thread

Hi Drewster, I have just imported a batch of my collection from Belgium to UK legally. So my recent experience is that it's certainly not worth it. Tax is now applied for value of each stick (i.e. Cohiba's will be more than Hoyo's of same weight) & then again based on weight. My forms were completed by a friend in the business, to ensure correct compliance & roughly I paid 2/3 of the total value in tax & duty i.e. £1,000 for £1,500's worth of cigars. This could have been a lot more but I had selected my smallest cigars to send this way. Logically it would have been best to sell them all those I couldn't bring over using my legal limit over the last 8months & used that cash to buy other cigars once in the UK. But then personal collections aren't dictated by logic & although I sold some, the remainder were either deleted & or VHTF.

Are you allowed to bring them in yourself what I mean by that is with your relocating back to the Uk could you drive into the UK with them and your personal belongings and furniture if you get me or do you then still have to declare

I did email HMRC to ask how to value my cigars but they took 6-8wks to reply so I asked my friend & he sorted it out. I then fwded his paperwork to HMRC to prove I had declared & paid the appropriate tax & duty. We are waiting to hear they have approved our Transfer of Residence) from them, this is how you can bring all your household good sback, tax free, as long as it's more than 6months old & you agree not to sell it for at least 12months.

I guess you can turn up at Dover & declare a couple of hundred cigars & you'll be charged whatever the on duty officer works it out. But I think this a rare occurrence & I understandably didn't want to pay more than I had too; doing it my way ensured I didn't.

Just pick them up on a weekend break, when times permit, it's the only practical way these days. you can bring back 50 on your own or 100 if you treat the wife to the trip as well!

Did you bring them back yourself or send them? Did they check what you had declared was what you were actually bringing?
