My immediate thought is if you reduce access to tobacco, they will seek solace in other drugs, that are possibly worse to their long term health & have more consequences for their children e.g. increase in use (NZ narrowly rejected making Cannabis legal) & of course alcohol.

I don’t think cigarettes are good and fear the new laws and restrictions leaching across to cigar smoking as they cover tobacco in general however the world has gone mad. The push on promoting cannabis use while vilifying tobacco blows my mind. Don’t get me wrong i’m all for legalisation and letting people make their own choices as long as they don’t impact on others, but the double standards beggars belief.
Not sure if other drugs would actually be worse. tobacco and alcohol are definitely amongst the most dangerous of all drugs. But the principal should be to give everyone the freedom to decide for themselves what they want to do with their bodies and lives.
I’m not suggesting anything is better or worse (although I do seem to recall a study suggesting smoking cannabis is just as harmful to the lungs as cigarette smoking) however the complete disparity in new legislation between them is staggering to me.
Is this the start of the slippery slope to Big Brother controlling our lives. Although I understand the need to discourage or even restrict access to cheap cigarette tobacco based products. People need to relieve the stress in their lives and for lots of us tobacco is our chosen poison. I might be biased but for me some down time with a good cigar or pipe is my choice. All be it quite often accompanied with some form of premium alcohol.
My fear is if you outlaw tobacco it will
1) lead to a black market and
2) lead to people seeking other more dangerous substances to find relaxation.
Or thirdly masturbation will become a bigger national pastime than it already is; and outraged clergy will call for a ban on it. leading to tens of thousands of teenage boys looking for other stress relief and seeing tobacco as an option. 😏
Yesterday, the United Kingdom Department of Health (DH) launched a public consultation period regarding the latest plain packaging proposals for tobacco
Just crazy.. I would of course, still contune to smoke but plain packaging would just take so much away from the experience of selecting, buying and smoking. So much about the history of these brands we all know and love surely they cant just pull that from them! Its so wrong to brand them in this ugly plain packaging.
Or maybe they just go back to unbanded? ..I remember in australia when they first brought the plain pacaging out for cigs there was a run of tobacco companies selling branded cigarette boxes/tins so people just transfer into them. Dont think habanos would do someting similar and if they did it would be a re/le tin that cost an arm and a kindney
