Ignoring the odd Hamlet or the very occasional festive cigar, was there a certain occasion/event or a particular cigar, or indeed a combination of both, that set you off on the journey to cigar enlightenment - If you like a eureka moment?

Cigargaua amsterdam. I bought my first 'proper' cigars. smoked a few whilst in amsterdam, then went to belgium. I remember sitting outside jerrys in the square with a beer and a smoke and by the time i was travelling home i had ordered a humidor and sampler from cgars. Thats was the start of the slippery slope.
that was 2018 and i have been back to amsterdam three times since, and i have to go to cigaragua

A wedding in 2018, the groomsmen had a box of CoRo they shared between a few more of the guests.
Didn’t smoke again until summer 2019, enjoyed a D4 on the rooftop of The Ned in London at one of their summer parties. I thought it would be nice to have one once or twice a month in the nicer weather in the garden. Started looking Cubans up online, found this place and it’s all been downhill since 😂.

Unbanded cabs of cuban loveliness in Harrods (JJ Fox) walk in humidor in the mi-nineties...
Walked in (I worked at Harrods)... smelt the smells... got to know the staff. was taught how to select and what good was/wasnt and then started collecting and enjoying fine cubans.
First up was a HdM Epi2 or a SLR Regios.. time has eroded which... was always Cabinet Selection...
Man o man I did some damage on my store card..."Dear heart, you're talking to a man- a real man- who drinks straight Tequilla, with lime and salt on the rim, and smokes cigars" (J Zavala)

I was working in the Middle East for a short time, in which a few jaunts over to Bahrain saw me picking up some very overpriced cigars from the bars/hotels on nights out (~£40 for a RyJ Churchill I remember, but in keeping with the drinks prices there I suppose). Smoking out on a nice terrace or indoors in the air conditioning were very enjoyable experiences, albeit usually fairly clouded memories...
I ended up with one left over which I brought back home, started researching storage, bought a humidor, found out it NEEDED to be more full... and with that came the CAD.

Can I ask what is your personal version of CAD manifests itself? Are you an acquirer, a collector, a smoker or a combination?

I was in Bargain Books about 15 years ago and came upon this book that really piqued my interest. I read it cover to cover, over and over and eventually I bought a "small smokes" Cuban sampler from Mitch at £47 delivered for 8 of them... Bargain!
Of course, I needed a humidor to store them in...and a lighter...and a Davidoff cutter...and a thermo-hygrometer....etc, etc 🤣
I 'd given up smoking cigarettes about 20 years ago and my wife was worried cigars would lead me back to the ciggies (it didn't)....

I've got around 600 now, about a 50/50 split of Cuban boxes I'm aging, and new worlds/singles. I have never considered myself a collector, I bought all the cigars with the intention of smoking them. However, now it's coming to the time to start breaking into some of these boxes, I am getting a little hesitant 😂

i class myself as a smoker (only 1-2 a week) but buy more overall than i smoke in a year. Only been at it for a short time really but i have been starting to smoke what i bought the previous year, hoping that will get longer and longer, as i build my stock i have more to go at at more to lay down.
or thats the plan!
