Time for a Good Ol' Weigh-in

Wanted some opinions here, keeping in mind that taste is personal and there's no accounting for it, etc., but I'm trying to decide between purchasing some Monty 2's and Partagas 8-9-8's.

Monty pros: I love the 2's; they are one of my favorites, and I only have one in the humi.
Monty cons: already had them, and I had a number of plugged ones that put me off them last year. Nothing worse than smoking one of your favorites and having to throw the puro away before it's time.

Partagas pros: I love the Partagas line, and the SD4's and shorts are a regular go to stick for me.
Partagas cons: never had one, so a purchase would be something of a gamble, though this could be a pro given that the fun of discovery is part of what makes the world of cigars a great one to be in.

So, what say you: 2 or 8-9-8?

I would say the 8-9-8, but have you considered the P2?

Partagas (bless 'm) have two 8-9-8's .... Dalia and Coronas Grande. I've never smoked either but both rate higher than the No.2 which I've not had draw issues with (so far) and consider an excellent smoke.

Good question--I have a few P2's, thanks to Eggy, and definitely enjoy them, but they are a bit too close the SD4 for me for a purchase right now (I have a few SD4's), so I want to go with something that I'm a bit understocked with right now.

Also, when, my SD4's run out, I will buy a box, so that is a certain future buy on top of this one.

The Monty 2 is a bit inconsistant, hence why its been a good few years since my last box.

I'd take a good monty 2 over the 898.

Hmmm, in what way would you say the 898 is lesser than the D4?

only 898 i had was plugged, got a few monte 2 left and they've been great. At the minute though the Romeo short churchills are smoking fantastic and you can get them in 10's so why not a 10er of monte 2's and a 10er of short churchills.

Spooner , Keith and myself got 10 box each, thinks Spooner has smoked all his. I just found them to be consistent and a nice alternative to the usual suspects..I'm sure others on here will have their opinions on them to.

I wasnt keeping note but if I remember correctly they weren't as flavourful and didnt produce as much smoke. Different profile too. more along the lines of the party milfs.

i like the ryj shory churchill off to germany this weekend and will be dropping into luxembourg for a box of 10 on saturday. had a few of these in last couple of weeks and enjoyed every one ... a nice smooth creamy smoke at a good price for a cuban...97euro for ten

I always found the varnished 898 to be an underrated and reliable cigar. I seem to remember that they were quite reasonably priced too but perhaps that's just because I got them in one of my highly complex and opaque swap deals.

I love the 898'sV! The 08's are smoking great right now. I have not had a bad one...yet. I find them to be stronger than the D4's. If you love the D4's...you'll love the 898'sV.
