  • A blog about cigars and taxes

Mike of Boutique Smokes has put up a blog post about the taxes he bears importing cigars from the US and the relation to his pricing. I know this is a topic close to our wallets. Warning, lots of numbers 😁

Also I didn't know Trump imposed a 25% tax on import of UK goods recently and we introduced a retaliatory tax.

I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

Love a bit of cheerful reading on a Sunday morning. I’ve been meaning to order their full sampler for a few months now but never pull the trigger.

Good read to understand your uk pricing.
It strikes me that with the fixed taxes which you can’t avoid and a 40% margin - which sounds fair, that the average nc cigar from the us has a street price at x10 of the producer/wholesalers price - ughhhh😳

I also for a fact know that the average Scandinavian tobacco dealer B&M or internet alike is expected to have a gross profit of 40% on Habanos cigars😎

The part I’m confused by is why as an NC seller would you buy via America while the retaliatory tariff is in place. Can’t he just get them shipped from the factory, rather than imported at a cost into the USA and then hit by that 25% tax on top of that.
