  • The Purge

I find myself purging cigars more and more. Usually the next few draws after a purge show a lot more sweetness and cleaner flavours.

How often, if at all, do you take to purge?

I find a good purge improves the flavour.

I Regularly purge I find it further increases the flavours significantly. I tend to do it more so when there is a build up of a touch too much bitterness in the smoke

I also find it cools the stick down so as I take puffs more frequently in the winter this comes in handy.

Yeah, I have a tendency to smoke fast, if I like a cigar. Makes sense.

It's a balancing act not to put the cigar out while keeping it cooler, esp in cold weather.

I've only tried it occasionally and usually forget to do it, I'm usually concerned about making it worse by overheating the end.

Are you supposed to basically replace a draw with a purge instead? As in wait the same amount if time after/before so it's not too hot?

Basically yes, though there is something about the taste going straight from purge to draw. Am I only the only one who loves taking a large draw straight from a purge?!

It will heat up the cigar and if you do it hard can do a noticeable amount so just give it chance afterwards to cool back it doesn’t take long at all.

I always blow through the cigar before every draw - it's a habit now. Don't know if it improves or worsens the experience.

Probably after every 4 or 5 draws for me I think

Just the last quarter, if it gets hot or slightly bitter.

Bringing this thread to current - Good advice here for anyone new to smoking and wondering about what purging is or whether it’s good/bad.

I routinely do it in last third as well but not during the smoke. Going to experiment a bit now that I see everyone has a different take.

Sounds like good advice all round - I will be trying on my new smoke!
