How often, if at all, do you exhale through the nose when smoking a cigar? I find that flavours become more intense and I get more nuances through the nose, so I smoke retronasal most of the time. How about you?

I probably retrohale far too much, but as Niela says mixing the retrohale with air from your lungs. If you just blow the smoke out your mouth you just don’t get the full mix of flavours, aromas and finish with just the mouth.
you do have to train your nose to retrohale over time - and keep your nasal passages clear. I use a saline solution regularly which helps keep your sinuses clear and toughens the delicate membrane of the nose lining over time

I retrohale just about every puff, occasionally the whole thing if the cigars smooth enough. It's something I have to consciously try not to do, just when I'm exhaling, I'll close my lips and move my tongue around etc. which causes the smoke to pass through my nose instead as I breath out.
But whenever I do think about it and just blow it out of my mouth, I never get the same flavour/intensity and I'm usually disappointed.

The flavours are different from smelling the smoke in the room. When retro haling we combine the taste of our mouth buds with the smell through the nose. If you smell the room smoke, you only get the nose part.

I only came across this phrase a couple of days ago. Watched a video on YouTube about it. Gave it a shot with a CAO Flathead 770... and it made me have tears in my eyes 😂 I feel like I need much more practice with.
Im currently really struggling to identify flavour notes so am hoping this technique will help.
