  • Recommend Me some Cigar Books

Basically as the thread title says .. what books would you recommend to learn more of the fine art of smoking cigars ....

  • #2
Bought this for a pal who's just started, it's very nice.

Comes in two volumes in a slip case, with a cuban style yellow ribbon holding it all together.

Bloody good value, looks nice next to his humi!

Buy Cigars: Volume 1 : The World's Finest Cigars / Volume 2 : The Art of Cigars Revised and updated edition by Gérard, Vahé (ISBN: 9782080300966) from Amazon's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders.

Min Ron Nee's book usually gets a thumbs up by most. But it'll cost you around ?90 if not more.

It has to be Min Ron Nee's llustrated Encyclopedia of Post-Revolution Havana Cigars, if you can find a copy

?I have to laugh when I think of the first cigar, because it was probably just a bunch of rolled up tobacco leaves?

Well I got two different (but in many ways similar) cigar books off ebay not so long back (both new, both readily available and both as cheap as chips).

The Complete Cigar Book by Anwer Bati (255 pages) is a really interesting history, overview of major cigar regions and review of the best/most popular cigars from each country. I really liked this one, although it is aimed mainly at 'beginners' I think the level of information (and the nice wriring style) would make it enjoyable for anyone.

The Cigar Lexicon by Dietwr H Wirtz (320 pages) is in many ways similar in style/content but also has a bit more 'technical' information of the leading brands (exact sizes, fillers and wrapper origins for NCs etc).

Neither boook is a comprehensive stick by stick review guide for the 'aficionados' out there, but then there are some very good websites for this that are constantly updated (I particularly like http://www.cigars-review.org/) that mean a book that is out of date almost as soon as it goes to print is not necessary for this in these internet days...

Rudman's Cigar Guide: a pared-down version of MRN's encyclopaedia, without the photos. The most informative little book on cigars I've seen & I reckon a must-have.

I don't know if there's a later edition than this & whether he's ever corrected the completely erroneous temperature / relative humidity table as printed in my edition:

Buy Rudman's Complete Guide to Cigars Third Edition by Rudman, Theo (ISBN: 9781572431492) from Amazon's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders.

There's also Perelman's NC & CC books - but they're not much more informative than lists of cigars in production that year.
