I've tried my best to like non-Cubans bit of the eight I've smoked lately they've all been as bland as arseholes. I really wish I could like them as I could save a lot of beans but they're just so awful. I tried one tonight but gave up half way through and lit a Flor de Cano...a cheap as chips Cuban but it it was 1000% better than the NC......

Its a funny thing ya know. I started out on NC's, and then made the step to ISOMs. They have a very distinct flavour to them over NC's.
I do have a love for some NC's, but I find the more I smoke Cubans, the less NC's I desire.
Of course, there are the Custa Reys, Arturo Fuentes, Camacho Liberties, Gurkhas - I like 'em, deal with it, and a few others that I really do like.
End of the day, smoke what you like. I find after tax paid on import, they are all the same price, so I tend to stick with the Cubans over non's.
One day you will find a NC that you like, and you will buy a box of em.sigpicFor Gallantry

A little early to make such a profound judgement, after only 8 cigars is it not? By and large I agree many do not compare to Cubans but there are some that are as good, just depends on your palate. What would I know? I'm just a backwoods roo packin crim from New Holland! LOL. (Thankyou El Cat)

I'll see if Deano can add a 'Do not bomb NCs' tick-box to the profile lol

I have had similar experiences to you. I find the odd one I enjoy but generally but for me they don't come close on the mid-to high-end CC's.Originally posted by Simon BolivarLittle medical correction there Steve, you will surely die...but not from smoking these

To me, NCs are like cheese. Anyone who doesn't like cheese does so because they haven't found one of the thousands of varieties that they DO like!
Sure, there are some crap NCs. There are also some really crap CCs too. About 6 months ago, I had only tried around half a dozen NCs but I then started getting some from the states. I have had bad ones, believe me, but I've also had great ones. For example, Nestor Plasencia Lanceros. A superb cigar.
It does however, boil down to taste. Think of how it would be if we all liked the same? There would only be the need for ONE cigar! No man has the right to fix the boundary of a nation.
No man has the right to say to his country, "Thus far shalt thou go and no further."

I've found NCs which are bland, but they aren't that many (maybe I've been lucky). Granted, I've never really had the excitement of a Cuban from an NC, but then again, I'll watch Neighbours as well as NCIS...
A lack of complexity of flavour development is something which, in my opinion, would be more accurately levelled at many NCs. I've regularly had NCs with pleasant flavours, but little depth and not much by way of a 'journey' from the first third to the last.
Then there are the occasional ones which just tick all the boxes, like the Kristoff Maduro I had last week. Nothing dynamite flavour wise, but very nice all the way through, some nice depth to the flavours and a couple of changes in profile. Very nice.
