Does any one have a good guide on the different sizes i.e. corona, robusto etc for a newbie because I know the sort of sizes I might like but don't know the correct name to be able guide my decision.

The big question is, do you want a 'cigars-review' size guide (where, seemingly, every millimetres difference = a new size, most of which no-one's ever heard of), or Cigar Aficionado size guide, where differences of inches won't stop them cramming everything into the same category...
Some of the main sizes to take into account are (with reasonable variations in size):
Churchill - about 7"x47
Double Corona - about 7 1/2"x49
Lonsdale - about 6 1/2"x42
Corona - about 5 1/2"x42
Robusto - about 5"x50
Petit Corona - about 5"x42
Panatela - slim gauge cigar, usually around low-/mid-30s RG
Lancero - slim gauge cigar, usually around mid-/high-30s RG (generally quite a bit longer than a panatela)
However, a list of 'exact' sizes is a little prescriptive, as you can often find cigars with the same advertised size which vary considerably in length, and sometimes by quite a bit in girth too.
Hope the list is a reasonable starting point though - it's certainly not comprehensive or infallible, but it's a start.

A-ha! Crossed post there...
If you're after something along those lines, then have a look at this page on CGars - it's a pictoral display of all the sizes on one page.
My assertion about size names being a bit of a red herring stands though.
