  • Buzz or not to Buzz

I nicked this from another thread. It's one of Lee's posts.

I eat Cains for breakfast, I do weigh 350 though lol. I had a couple the other day before lunch and without breakfast, only time I had a "whitey" was when I smoked that nub in under 30 minutes. Now that was a bad experience lol

My trouble is I have a 'whitey' buzz experience with almost every cigar I smoke above 40 gauge or demi coronas size. Ok, with greater experience the sensation might decrease or go-away; and I'm a bit slighter than Lee at 156lbs.

On the plus front, I've loved the first third of nearly every cigar I've smoked, but around half way the whoosiness begins to kick in. Sometimes I can stay with it, but mostly I go the Zino Davidoff route and bale out before the final third.

Now, a lot of guys on here love to smoke big, strong cigars. My question I guess is ....Is the 'buzz' a part of cigar enjoyment, a challenge almost something to be controlled and overcome or which we might try to allow ourselves to relax into?

you sure your not inhaling the lighter gas dude? i get no buzz from smoking (and i do party luci's before breakfast!) i understand that some people can get dizzy if they've not eaten before smoking but if you get a buzz every time, surely something's not right?

I think it all depends on how your body reacts to it. So far there have been very few cigars that have gave me that "whoosiness" feeling while enjoying it.

What I sometimes do experience more is a slight nauseous feeling after I finish a cigar. That usually depends on the conditions I find myself in while having it. i.e. a room will little ventilation(thus not much clean air), or after a pretty serious meal and the smoke unsettles my stomach a little.

In any event I find the feeling passes after maybe 30 minutes or so.

Thats an unusual Question Mr Tippexx... As for me, i only seem to get that light headedness with certain cigars and not all. Each stick (or manufacturer) has different qualities, ive even been light headed after smoking one of the lightest of sticks, say; with a connecticut wrapper, but not with a really dark wrapper.

I like a cigar in the mornings (usually before i go to work or on route) but i also dont eat breakfast. When i get that 'moment' i normally try to overcome it and carry on with my stick if im at home. Its not a buzz to me, but my eagerness to beat the stick and still enjoy it. I just take it slowly, less power on the draws. However now that you have approached the subject i will have to take more notice and maybe some notes.

Whats probably out of order to say, and apologies to those i may offend, but; i often find, with me, CC's in my price range are often piddly little things and so i have therefore not noticed it as much. Whereas NC's always seem much thicker and generally larger which contiributes to my enjoying NC's more than CC's. The largest CC ive smoked is the Partagas Serie P2 which is a favourite of mine, but has little lightheaded effect, and isnt by all accounts that strong.

Hows that for a pointless ramble!!

          No .... nor sniffin' glue.

It's just the bigger or stronger cigars BigBarney. I do eat before smoking. Cuaba Divinos, Boli Bonitas, RyJ Petite Princess I could smoke on the bounce no problem .... but add in a Party Short! (Though I do like the taste).

I don't like the dizzyness feeling, though yes, it does go away pretty quickly. I think I just don't like the idea that I'm not in control.

I also get this. I put it down to me not being a regular smoker (1-3 month/special occasions). I do find however if I slow it down for the later part of the stick I can keep the effect from getting any worse. I must admit I find it the same effect for all the cigars I smoke although I do tend to lean towards the medium strength cigars as my favourites. I do find it gets worse the quicker I smoke the cigar which i guess is natural. I'm in no way a slighter and heavy set btw. Like Tippexx I seem to really enjoy the first 1/3 or 1/2 then do not enjoy the 2/3 so much.

This might be a daft question, but how much of the smoke (if any) are you inhaling (Some do, some don't).
Taste and flavour are the main components of a good cigar to me, though I'm happy to ride a mellow buzz as part of the experience.

My issue, is less to do with getting 'light-headed', but more a case of ending up with a tongue that's as dry as a camel's armpit.

The number of times I wake up with it feeling like sandpaper afterwards!
Now, how do you get rid of that?

I only inhale smoke into my mouth Cat. Nose exhale sometimes. For me it's the taste of the smoke (cigar) which matters.

I dont seem to get a buzz from any of them , i dont inhale any of the cigar though. As i said in the other post, only time i had a bad experience was with that Nub stand i did, but i was sucking on that like a Wigan prostitue.

I can sometimes get a buzz from certain cigars which I like, however I dont really like the buzz I get from smoking Perdomo Habanos, RP The edge and Cain's, they seem to really knock me on my arse and dont agree with me.

Nor me. I don't like ditching them. I kinda think I'm being money wasteful when I do. But, in reality the final third is accumulating tars which (IMO) are destroying the proper intended taste of the cigar.

El Catador - re: the drytongue - It might well be 'tongue bite'? The evil chemical burn you often get from pipe smoking. I used to get it the morning after (super dry tongue morning + hangover = horrible start to any day) smoking a big cigar too quickly with my usual rum+coke.... I believe smoke speed (and therefore smoke heat) are what it's usually attributed to. Some blends of tobacco can also effect certain people differently? There might be someone else on here who knows more about it... but yup - some cigar blends might produce chemicals that are not good for your skintype.

If it is tongue bite - you can try not smoking with carbonated drinks, smoking slower, and possibly try other cigars / gauges and do a bit of searching around.

But back on topic If I haven't smoked for a while I get buzzy or again when I'm not taking my time with a big cigar (usually over 50). I don't usually get a 'whiteout' buzz and I'm rarely nausious. I'd personally consult my physician if I started to get similar episodes... luckily he smokes a pipe so he's nicely unbias.

I hit a "whitey" a couple of days a go smoking on an empty stomach. The time before that was last year, again on an empty stomach, a magnum 50 left me needing to lie down for an hour or so. I have never felt ill smoking after a meal so I tend to only smoke after dinner.

Hmmm, very unusual for me. Only happens every odd really full-bodied cigar and majority of the time it is relaxing not unpleasant.
