cigar tasting

good evening all,i'm a beginner in the cigar smoking world but am keen to learn.call me sad but i was planning on keeping a written record of my smokes so i could refer back to it in the future as a record of what i i'd had and enjoyed.Ive done whiskey,beer port and wine tasting in the past but wanted to know what tastes to lookfor in cigars.Ive read quite a few reviews and have noted-earthy-spicy-caramel and floral.
sorry for the beginners question but i want to educate my pallette so i can offer some half intelligent comments to my smoking experiences.

I keep a hardback journal. I glue in the band, write the date, time of day, were I bought it and the year if applicable. I write tasting notes as best I can, and note anything I have eaten or drank. This helps with future cigars , I used to do the same with wine to help train my pallet.

IMO, making your own notes is very helpful. I had a book I wrote mine in until I started my blog. It helps you work out what you like and dislike in what you've tried so far. When I first started I read reviews here and on cigars-review then tried to see if I could taste the flavours mentioned in the reviews. Sometimes I could, sometimes I couldn't! Don't expect it to be instant, and enjoy the learning process.

Also, I'd note down what you'd eaten or drunk beforehand, or were drinking with it. Some tastes compliment each other very well, while others clash horribly.

thanks for the input,i have downloaded a review of my planned smoke for comparison it seems a great idea,my mentor eggopp suggested the same lol

anyway the plan is hdm epicure especial,single malt whiskey and nothing spicy for dinner

lol im no mentor, i just said how i review cigars, i like to include things that knock a memory, like that lovely childhood memory of kicking mouldy leaves when playing in autumn, the mouldy leaf flavour.. and how i do it, i just take gentle draws, hold the smoke in the back of my throat and slowly exhale via nose and mouth so taste buds get full access..

Everyone will have a different method, thats mine.. certainly dont think my reviews justify being a menotr, but thanks for the compliment.. lol

I used to be like Lee and kept a journal etc. Then I started to REALLY enjoy the cigars and didn't want to write while I was enjoying them, so I now have a simple system. I save the bands of the gars and write "YES" on the back of the ones I like and "NO" on the bands I don't like!

Oh i do that too... i write, fair, nice, good, very nice, very good and for my top score i simply write YUMMY...

if i get one i dont like i put 'Bleh'

Guantanamera cristalis. Some love, some hate....very cheap, machine made Cuban. Tastes ok, nothin special but nothin awful also the villager Tubos I enjoyed very much. Cheap, cheerful smoke to pass time.
