  • I fear for my bank account!

All pretty new to cigars but have found i have a taste for it already and since Friday last week have smoked 7 sticks (today 1 x Partagas Serie D 4 & 1 x Cohiba Esplendido) By my rough calculations that's ?92 in 5 days....if i continue at this rate i'll be broke by the middle of the month!

Do most of you smoke everyday?

What cheap sticks are a good daily smoker, the Partagas Serie D 4 i enjoyed but thats still ?9 per day if i was to go down that route.

Are there any NC worth considering?

Whats the weekly spend of you guys?

Do i need to change my job

Well I did spend ?500 during my first week and a half of taking up this little hobby. Sadly I found this fantastic leather Georgian arm chair that I had to buy this month so my stick spend has been curtailed until the next pay day! But yes, this little luxury does take quite a hammering on the liquid funds!

Yes, but don't you spend nearly all your monthly funds on sticks?

Yup, it's all over for you--you've succumbed. I can say for myself that I smoke upwards of four or five a week, or more, though work can get in the way of that. If I had my druthers, and my wife hadn't threatened to kill me, I'd be buying and smoking much more. But it's not necessarily even the smoking; it's the collecting!

Good luck and welcome to the paycheck-to-paycheck club.

On a lot of my greetings posts I say "hang on to your credit card, it could get bumpy!". See, I was right.
If you want to go cheap you can get some good deals on NC's if you know where to look.

I'm hoping this is just my enthusiasm for my new recreation and also until I find the perfect cigar for me? Or is the search for the 'one' endless?

So far my most enjoyable smoke has been the Upmann Magnum 46, perfect draw and burn. Though at ?13 per stick this can't be a daily smoker.

I'm smoking then too fast to even consider collecting them yet!

That's a great smoke. I have a cab and I don't regret it at all.

I'd say the search is endless until it isn't. In other words, there's a lot out there to check out, and for a while you won't really know what you truly like because your palate will be developing. I'm definitely still in the exploratory phase, and I friggin love it, though I've settled on a few that I know I like. What really helped me was to read the reviews and discussions on this board in depth (there's a lot of great knowledge here), and to check this source as well:

cigars, cuban cigars, cigar reviews, cigar ratings, habanos, cubans, top cigars

to be honest mate, i think you're addicted already!!! lol!!! it's probably a bit late to suggest exercising some will power here!!!! lol!!!

i limit (or rather, i'm limited) to 1, maybe 2 cigars a week!!! this is also dependent on the weather, since i only smoke outdoors!!! i think (or believe, or have convinced myself) it makes me appreciate them more!!!

it's an expensive luxury or hobbie to have, but think about it...... if you took up playing the electric guitar, you wouldn't go out and buy a guitar pedal everyday, would you? or, if you were a photographer, would you buy a new accessory for your camera everyday? if you got into whiskies, would you go out and buy a new bottle everyday? cigars are no different (to me anyway)!

i hope i'm not coming across as condescending here, we've all been there!!! when i first started out, i called in to the (only) tobacconist here in belfast once a week, and spent ?30 -?40 on 3 or 4 cigars!!! i since found that to be excessive, now i call in once in a while for 1 or 2 sticks!!!!! also, you've went for the more expensive sticks (bloody hell, an esplendido and a psd4 in 1 day?), look out the less expensive brands, and follow up suggestions from other members on here and other sites on the web!!!

                      btw, welcome to the forum!!!

                      all the best,

The plan was just the psd4 today but my work was finished by 10.30am so found myself parked up atop of a sunny hill overlooking the Forth Bridges, seemed the perfect place to sit and enjoy it!

The Cohiba was an impulse smoke late this afternoon (was meant for a holiday coming up), knowing my gf is coming home at 7pm and that would put paid to smoking in the house.

Her arrival home may curtail my spending for a few days.

                            as rudyard kipling said:
"a woman is only a woman, but a good cigar is a smoke!"

saying that, even though i wear the trousers in the house, i still have to stand to attention and salute the long haired general!!!! lol.......

my missus approves of my cigar smoking, she even said she sees a difference in my mood and temperament whenever i have one!!! however, she complains and huffs when i choose to have a cigar instead of watching crap on TV!!! that means i'm outside for at least an hour.......bliss!!!

so, what cigars have you had in the last 5 days? the PSD4 is a firm fav of mine, as is the party P2!!! i was never attracted to nor blown away by the esplendido, what did you think of it?

                            all the best,
