  • Which Cigar for a Beginner ??

    Hey All,
Im visiting the UK from the States and am wanting to try a cirgar or few.
As I dont know about the UK market or the cigar market for that matter, my question is what cigar should I try ?
    Regards

My start, and a good mellow one at that, was a Montecristo 4. That was the beginning of the end of my bank account.

By the by, I'm in the bay area (Alameda) if you ever want to gather for a smoke.

Montecristo Open range, since they are designed for the US market and we sodding hate them so smoke them all and stop us from having to look at the bastards.
"In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock!"

That's alright--we'll leave them for you as our little calling card.

By the way, some good noncubans (nc's):

            Arturo Fuente Hemingways
Tatuaje Miami, Havana VI, La Riqueza, or El Triumfador

I'm a complete noob but have tried the Regatta & Junior and found them both very harsh & peppery...really tight and an uneven burn too. Gave up with the Regatta and threw it. Junior was very slightly better but would never buy either again!

                    hello,
                    i would recommend:
*Romeo y julieta tubos no. 2, short churchill tubos
*montecristo no.4, no.5, petite tubos (basically a tubed no.4) or petite edmundo
*diplomaticos no.4 (never tried 'em myself, heard they're quite like montecristos)
*any h upmann (petite coronas, connoisseur no.1)

of course, you could just jump right in and go for a cohiba siglo 2!!! lol!!!

all the above are nice, inexpensive (approx ?10 to ?13 each, last you an hour) cigars!!! if you're new to cigars, here's some advice (from experience):
don't smoke on an empty stomach and have a nice drink with it, such as coffee, tea, whisky, brandy, guinness (!), hot chocolate, coke....... or else you'll be feeling slightly, ahem, woozy!!! also, some nice, british (can we still call it that?) chocolate adds to the overall experience i think!!!

lol, you get the picture!!! enjoy your visit!!!

                    all the best,

                    alex

ps: here's a link to the UK's la casa del habanos in london!!! the prices are avarage for the uk!!! any suggestions you are made you can check up here!!

Was going to say that! The Trinidad Coloniales is also a nice one!

IMO you cannae go wrong with Monte 4's and 5's. They're a lovely reliable smoke.

2nd that--the trinis will not overpower you and will give you a subtle intro.
