  • Time to have your say - CALL TO ACTION

Not sure if you saw the news item on the BBC that the new coalition government is looking for suggestions for any laws which should be repealed or removed from the statute books: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/10473752.stm

    So it's time to act!

While it is very unlikely that the smoking ban will be repealed it would be sensible to make some modifications:

such as allowing smoking in designated rooms/bars in pubs and clubs by consenting adults.

So don't delay, log on to the web site and have your say, and do it today!

    Hunting ban should definitely go.

Although I am a regular smoker as well as cigars, I do agree with the ban in theory, but a sensible approach would be as you suggest Nic.

I'll certainly be popping on over that one, and I guess a few others might too. Let's hope so.

Suggest we might all contribute to this existing thread. It is already high up the list and by adding to it and rating it it will get more notice:

Not sure how one posts here but I agree that it should be possible to have private clubs excluded and dedicated but segragated smoking rooms in pubs and restaurants.

            - Go to the thread
            - Open it up and go to the end of the thread
            - You will be asked to log in to be able to rate and comment on the thread.

The response is bloody awful at the moment but there is nothing on the telly so it might be better to set your alarm and get up at about 4.00am.

I think this article pretty much covers the smoking ban in England I am afraid!

The coalition government has "no plans" to carry out Labour's planned review of the smoking ban in England.

Well much as I miss being able to smoke in a pub (or even a restaurant), I actually agree with the smoking ban for the simple reason that they are workplaces, and those workers in them (usually low paid) should not be treated less favourably than any others when it comes to their own health and safety. We as smokers (and drinkers etc) choose our own risks, but it is morally quite wrong to let that lead to risks to others. And while in theory seperate areas in establishments sound fine, in practice I think it would be very hard to ensure that workers in them were not presurised into 'voluntarily' working in and around those sections. So the smoking ban for me stays I'm afraid (as should the hunting ban - and be toughened up and properly enforced!)...

Well I tell you what, I'll compromise my opposition to this barbaric 'sport' if we can have a load of Tory toffs in their dinky little outfits chased through cities by a load of scallies while at the same time being shot at - and let's see how they like it then...

Whilst registering your support for repeal of the smoking ban, do also consider backing this brilliant suggestion (& maybe we'll see water running uphill in our lifetime):

sorry for going a little off topic i also think there should be a shake up on the smoking ban.

Would be nice to legally marry a sheep again, I suppose and apparently In the city of York, it is legal to murder a Scotsman within the ancient city walls, but only if he is carrying a bow and arrow.
