  • Mold problem, what do I do now?

I just noticed that a couple of cigars in the top drawer of my cabinet has been hit by mold, the majority is at the foot.

I have removed them from the tray, taken the remaining cigars which looked ok out an isolated them in a spare desktop humi.

Removed the said tray and wiped it out with a damp cloth and left it out of the cabinet.
The rest of the trays look ok, but I will keep a very close eye on them for the next week or two.
I havent had any humidity problems and they have been kept at a constant 67-69%RH for a while now, had some problems with temp which I've struggled with even without the heating on in that room it's still been at 71-73
Whats the best thing to do with tray and maybe the cabinet?

I just read an article about using Isopropyl Alcohol to very lightly wipe over any cigars and the tray to kill any spores, although I'm not convinced yet about that method.

    Any ideas?

i had a similar problem last summer, i stored my sticks in a biscuit tin as i didnt have an emergency humi.. i wiped my humi out with distilled water, then wiped it over with surgical spirit.. the humi stank for a week until eventually it was ok to put the stogies back. Havent had a problem since. I dont know if it was the right thing to do, but at the time i didnt know any other cigar lovers and wasnt with UKCF, but it solved my issues. However i suspect you have a huge humi cabinet of sorts, so may be different for you.

What kind of humidifier do you use? I know they make a humi solution that discourages the development of mold. I have used it a few times a year and never had a problem. They recommend using it every other fill. Hope this helps!

If the mold is at the foot of the cigars I would just clip off the affected part. I had a pre-embargo that had a small amount of mold on the foot once and I cut it off. About a year later I smoked the cigar and it tasted fine.

As for the humi, sell it to TJ and get a new one. He likes his cigars like his women: with moldy feet.

          Mold v Bloom?

Not meaning to be funny Boss, but are you 100% sure it is Mold and not Bloom?

dayum! brush the mold off the infected buggers and snip them at the bottom. I suggest you smoke these right away.

If you survive this, call in a priest and get the humi exorcised!

FWIW I wouldn't take isopropol to any of my sticks.
