  • H&F's Rebuttal of Scottish Tobacco Advertising

Not sure if this has been posted but before but I stumbled upon this whilst Goggling H&F (as you do....)

The revenue generated by Scottish cigar smokers is only ?1M....mostly by Whisk and K-Dot I imagine....

Interesting to read of the demographics of the cigar smoker

Big question is will it have any effect.
Buying online is fine and convenient but I love going into a specialist tobacconist (when I have the good fortune to find one anymore). The smells, the chat and generally the help and advice. Be a shame if they all disappeared.

I hate to sound like a suck-up, but I thought that was pretty well written. Here's hoping someone who matters thinks so too.

      Great find!

Mmm, a well posed argument. Whether it carries enough weight in terms of setting precedence remains to be seen. Yes, a good find Steve

Well written and presented argument. I love going to a tobacconist...too bad I haven't found one within easy range for me in Dorset. Seems to me that governments, not just the Scottish parliament, don't want to take ownership of an issue when it comes to smoking; they'd rather pass the buck and turn businesses into scapegoats. Shame really.

If i remember correctly, this has been taken on board and the law will not apply to "specialist tobacconists!"

              Good find.

Real interesting reading, and I did not realise the revenue generated was so little, I had assumed it would be much more.

Correct, but H&Fs argument is to allow the "sub-specialists" the same exemption given to the specialists.

It's a well thought out argument, excellently presented with some good statistics to back it all up. Unfortunately it'll more than likely get dismissed .

That really surprised me too. I would have thought an extra zero wouldn't be out of place...

I hope H & F get somewhere with that letter. It seems really appropriate what they are saying and lets keep our fingers crossed for the scottish smokers that they don't have their prized cigars hidden from sight
