  • Time to hang-up my cigar boots ....

.... well, not just yet for a bit. But sooner or later, either by death or by decision it will come to us all.

For myself, and at my age (62) I guess it will be either because I just wont want to face another winter of frozen feet, runny-nose and pretending to be enjoying something while shivering or more likely because my State Pension wont fill a Tesco trolly let alone run to visits to the baccy-kiosk.

On the brighter side you do hear of folks who smoke cigars right into old-age. Sir Winston, Charles Forte even Jimmy Saville.

Does anyone know any elder-Affectionados or had any thoughts as to when they might consider quitting cigars?
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

George Burns liked his cigars and he was quite old... Not considered giving anything up yet.

Let's start with at my age (63, closing in on 64)...

I plan to die with a stogie in my mouth at triple-digits. If George Burns could do it, consider the better health care and medical advances that should keep me alive even longer yet.

My goal is to stay around long enough that I can turn up the volume on me electronic ears and eavesdrop around the corner whilst my femchildren grumble to each other about "when is that old sonuvabitch finally going to die?"

I suggest you take your State Pension and invest in a one-way ticket to sunny Florida US of byghodz A. Your comfort is assured in our spare bedroom, your feets won't freeze in our mild winters, and I'll have a partner in crime whenever my wife vizzits me (us) on the back porch, inevitably exclaiming "Ghodz, those things STINK!"

            I know what you mean,T.
Wandering around my neighbourhood with frozen digits trying to enjoy a cigar. not brill.
I have summer plans to make the shed/summerhouse winnter-proof because, frankly, I'm pissed off with it.
By the way I'm sprightly, ahem, 52.

As a sprightly young nipper (it would appear... ) I intend, like the rest of you, to continue along my merry life for as long as possible.

To help achieve this, I will continue to spend most of the winters cigar free (bar ski weeks). The humidors will be prised open come Easter and the summer will be viewed through a hazy fog of beautiful tobacco leaf smoke.

I know that giving up my cigars just does not register in my vocabulary i just couldnt imagine life without them. Im 30 years old by the way and plan to keep puffing on a cigar for as long as possible hopefully to a ripe old age
