I had a strange experience the other day. I recently received a three pack of H. Upmann Magnum 46 and smoked one a few days after receiving them. This one was straight from the tube: tasty but a bit tight. I smoked one on Sunday that had sat in my humidor for three weeks and this wasn't so good; more like it was from a box that needed rest.

I don't often smoke tubos so haven't noticed this before. I'm wondering if tubing them stops or slows the aging process. Does anyone else see a difference between cigars that have been stored tubed and those not?

I suspect on that time-scale (with newish sticks) you are just dealing with build variation. There is an opinion that cigars age more slowly on tubes as there is less airflow to encourage the fermentation process.

I did wonder about that with only a sampling of two
This would seem to be a great excuse to buy some more tubos of something for further testing!

        Damn, that's a good idea!

          Re: Tubes

As you probably all know- many cigars are rolled and sets of 10/25 are put together of similar shade wrapper/texture so that a whole box matches- I believe that the Tunis are the odd ones here and there that are the cigars that they havnt matched with or box or slightly below par for presentation purposes in a box and so are tubed; therefore the cigars come from different batches/rollers etc and so won't be the same as each other- effectively like smoking from different boxes. In saying this I was at a tasting for the release of the new Partagas Serie D No.4 Tubos earlier last year and they all seemed to be high quality- so I wouldn't you are getting a bad deal from buying tubos?
