  • HDM Hoyo Des Dieux 03

    I picked these up from a retailer that had a great vintage sale . . . .

Smoked one today in the garage (too damn cold outside).

Wow- put me in the best mood all day, like smoking a flower. With a great tequila mojito.

I may have to get more - don't care if they are not on sale. If I have another and it's like the first . . . .

One of my favourites: complex, ethereal, wonderful.

Does anyone know if it's true that the Hoyo De series is a continuation of the Davidoff line after they 'left' Cuba for the DR (ie that it uses the same blends)?

          Nicked off Wikipedia.

          Part of Le Heyo History.

In 1931, the Gener family sold their cigar brands in order to focus more on their sugar cane properties. The firm of Fern?ndez, Palicio y C?a bought the Hoyo de Monterrey and La Escepci?n brands and added them to their impressive lineup, which already included Punch and Belinda. Around this time in the 1940s, the Le Hoyo series (along with the Chateaux series which would later be used to create the Davidoff cigar line) was created for Swiss distributor A D?rr Co.. After the death of partner Ram?n Fern?ndez, Fernando Palicio became sole proprietor of the business and by 1958 his cigar lines accounted for 13% of all Havana cigar exports.
After the government of Cuba unilaterally expropriated the company from its legitimate owners, Fernando Palicio voluntarily left Cuba for Florida. He subsequently sold his cigar lines to the Villazon family, which continued to make Punch, Hoyo de Monterrey, and Belinda cigars in their Tampa, Florida factory from Honduran tobacco for the American market.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Can't recall now - will check Ronny Min's book when I'm home as it might have been there.

Was there a Cuban Davidoff size as small as the Depute - or indeed the Marie?

And is there a Lancero-sized Le Hoyo?

Perhaps they kept the blends (& why wouldn't they, seeing how highly rated they were?) but slightly altered the range of sizes?

So Hoyo originated what would become the Davidoff Cuban range. Could well have reverted back to Hoyo later (or it could just be me transposing things in my mind).

Although the le Hoyo series? is widely acknowledged as replacing a gap in the Hoyo line up after the shift in the production of Davidoff?s, the blend is slightly different being more woody, blended for aging (in cabs only)

The Davidoff?s and especially the Chateau series? have a sweeter more honey like flavour, and if my memory serve's me right a less intense but richer hardwood note, last one I had was 4 or so years ago, so could be a little out.

I had a 97 Des Dieux Saturday night which was exquisite, the usual woody note's had become much more refined, very subtle and aromatic, a must try for the Hoyo fan.

Come to think of it I recall that the le Hoyo's where brought out to compete with the Chateau series, and the Siglo line was introduced to fill the gap left by the Davidoff's (MRN)

So the cabs are a different blend?? A 97 - must be so smooth.

I think they are only available in SLB and some 5 packs, probably Cajon's many year's ago. not sure if the Des Dieux blend has changed much from inception! I've only had them as far back as 97, MRN doesn?t mention a blend change in his book, so not certain.

Yes very smooth, I have some later banded one's that are 06/07, I think I'll try one for comparison.

The Le Hoyo series of Hoyo de Monterrey predates Davidoff cuban cigars.
The story goes, and I think this has been widely accepted, that the Cohiba Siglo series I - V were introduced in 1994 to replace the Davidoff line.
