  • government smoking ban!

    good morning all,
check these articles out! doesn't look good, soon you'll not be allowed to smoke at all in public places, and maybe not even in your own home!
Keep up-to-date with what's going on in the UK and around the world with the top headlines and breaking news from Yahoo and other publishers.

what makes this so bad, from my point of view, is that northern ireland gets taxed the most in the uk for it's alcohol and tobacco, yet it has stuff all facilities for anyone wanting to smoke a cigar (or cigarette)!

what draconian times we appear to be living in!!!!

    all the best,

    alex

Why can't these people mind their own business. If they don't agree with smoking then they don't have to smoke! I say fuck the smoking ban. No one will take any notice of further bans, its just plain stupid.
Smoke em if you've got em

I think I must be the only cigar smoker in the whole wide world supporting the smoking ban...

I suport it in some places - but there should be a choice. If a few bars in an area want to permit smoking then they should be allowed to with extraction etc.

The Government can protect health and freedoms at the same time but choose not to do so because of ideological lobbying.

I get more libertarian as I get older. JS Mill is my hero.

QUOTE:,"The British Medical Association's head of science and ethics Vivienne Nathanson praised the plans and said they would "save lives and protect health."

Yeh until global warming kills everyone, then they'll wish they had a pack of smokes to calm their nerves as that huge tsunami heads towards them.
The politics and twats dealing in them have ruined this land, I tend not to look at the news or papers so I dont get wound up, I'd rather not know, I'll keep puffing till I get a hand on my shoulder telling me otherwise.

then you end up with a mess. like in Germany, where I come from and spend much of my time. there's utter confusion. in some federal states you can smoke in restaurants, in some you can't etc. everyone seems able to find a way around the ban. Germany is in the hands of the cigarettes lobby, seriously. the decline of cigar culture is a regrettable but necessary collateral damage in the war against cigarettes. I really admire the nanny state firmness with which the ban is implemented in the UK. Every Eurpoean country seems able to do it - except Germany.

The problem with relying on "nanny states" is it pre-suppose that nannies do actually know best. They certainly know how to claim their expenses & send young men needlessly to their deaths but can't regulate banks or find WMDs and their attitude towards cannabis makes the most hopeless stoner appear like Solomon.

When they can do really important things well such as run a health service with some efficiently or provide an effective education system, then maybe we would take them seriously when they try to restrict our freedoms.

.... I don't think they want our opinions Eugene .... blind obedience is what brings the power-crazed, bamp patches to their trousers.

They can only take away our freedoms if we let them.

The worse thing is: if smoking is banned altogether the suits won't stop there.
No alcohol, no private transport. no running in the corridors.
                              They're all bastards!
Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.
